    Re: EP45-UD3P / Q9650 4.0 OC if possible???

Chike, and all thanks for the info. I had to shut down RIG to clean filters, fans, etc. (been running 6 days non stop). I put in new RAM to check if it was good (G.Skill F2-9600CL5D-4GBPI / 8GB's) - passed Prime95 Blend 12 hrs. first try - 2.40B 1080 - Back to old RAM - Man, I had vtt all the way up to 1.36. The most I was able to get out of any test was 1 to 3 hrs. I was starting think I have a bad RAM module. I'll put old RAM back in and continue testing. One of my best P95 Blend passes:Vcore 1.35(1.33)LLC Enabled, vtt 1.30, MCH Core 1.26, CPU Ref. .715(.778), MCH Ref. .800(.863), DRAM 2.12. ERROR:worker #4, test #11, 2100, M34230145, 2048K, 444 test, 8hrs. 38 mins. I tried every setting possible - around these with no luck. I'd like to get my settings back around these if possible. I've never used clock skews before - may need help with this. Man, I'm sorry to be a pain (walk me through it) - Can I get settings to start with and do a test and report back procedure??? I'm going to study all the info you all(Okie) gave me - maybe something will click. THANKS AGAIN

Looks like you nearly there (the 8 hours test) try more MCH Core 1.28-1.32v.
        And please post full settings.

Chike, I tried to run Prime95 Blend - failed right away "worker #2" - went back and tried to run the 1.26 MCH Core test that ran 8+ hrs. / failed right away "worker #2". Should I run Memtest to see if I have a bad RAM module??? Thanks

              Re: EP45-UD3P / Q9650 4.0 OC if possible???

Are those the settings that passed 8+ hours with 1.28v MCH Core?

Maybe the memory just not up to 1080? try all advanced settings aside tRFC auto, or one step up, and tRAS 18.
And also try Channel Driving Strength 1200.
Try with MCH Core 1.28-1.32v and try MCH Reference 2 ticks up and down of your current settings.

You can run memtest86+ but might get errors with those settings even if the memory is fine. Run it with known good DDR-1066 settings if you have a saved BIOS profile.

Chike, I had to step out awhile. I ran Memtest while I was gone - your right (failed) - I ran 4 passes - It failed pass 1 / test 8 / 8 errors - no errors on the other passes. MCH Core was 1.28 - I'm going to try your suggestions but I'm going to set CPU Ref. to Auto. If you think I'll have problems with it on Auto please let me know. Thanks

Chike, I tested it using the settings for my 1066(1080) RAM. I was wanting to see if it would run the 2.40B strap. It made it look easy. I was wanting to try and run the 2.66D strap with it
(1200) but I figured I should finish what I started with the 1066 RAM. Maybe it will help somebody. Anyway, I used the exact same settings :RAM timings/1066 driving strength/vtt 1.30/CPU Ref .745(vtt 1.20)/MCH Core 1.28/MCH Ref .800(vtt 1.20). The Core temps were 59c 57c 55c 55c. Ran Prime95 Blend for 12 hrs. I bought a RAM cooler to go with the new memory but why would anyone want to cover up this RAM??? It's nice. Thanks

If the other ram work then it must be the ram, no point fighting with it if you gonna use the other anyway, that's myopinion.

I dont know who "kermit" is that was referred to by another posterbut having checked posts in these boards with c2q cpus for a long time,u cant say "x setting will work for everyone",but u do seem to have a good selection of components.
Once again tho do not expect to exceed the bandwidth figures of the chipset and use input from people who run a system as close to your own as possible .get your max fsb overclock stable, even if you have to gimp the memory badly, just so you can find the max cpu overclock.that will mean using either the 2:00B or 2:00D multiplier.
Get to 470-480 cpu ref at least even if you have to turn the cpu multiplier down a bit .Check out posts by "Conners"on his q9550,they arent recent but there is plenty of experimentation there and results and the board and cpu are close enough to you own.

Chike, I applied your suggestions in Post #36 and ran 12hrs. Prime95 Blend. Yes, with the 1066 RAM!!! I'm not sure what worked - I'm happy with the results. If you want me to keep tweaking on it I will??? I don't think I'll ever get to 4.0GHz using this RAM which was my goal to begin with. Anyway, NEW RAM : I remember awhile back - you said 4.08GHz - 480 FSB
That's where I'd like to take my new RAM to. I'll keep things as they are until I hear back from you. Thanks

Chike, I installed my new RAM. I read the the thread where Conners was OCing his Q9550. I got a few ideas where I'm wanting to take my 4.0 GHz OC. To keep it simple as possible I decided to run 500 FSB with 8 multi. I ran Prime95 Blend - core temps were 61c 59c 57c 57c - system temp never got off 33c. System shut down and rebooted after 14K FFT (no errors) 1hr. 33min.??? 640K may have been the problem - It seems like it's the problem 75% of the time. Anyway, can I get you to look at my BIOS settings and see if I'm on the right track. I don't believe my settings are to far off because it seems to run better than 3.82GHz settings. Thanks

Have you ran small and large FFT?
I assume it is not the ram because the timings are more relaxed than it's specs.
Yes it seems you are pretty close, try to play with the references and the skews 0-150ps on each, maybe one notch up MCH Core and/or VTT.
Nice memory, likely to get better when you wil tighten the timings.

If it is the memory after all maybe DIMMs clock skews need to be tweaked, I don't know from what ram clock they may be needed. Try to search the web about it.
