  • Q6600 / GA-EP-DS3L / DDR2 1066 / Looking to reach 3.4 GHZ stable

    Hey,

Currently looking to reach 3.4 GHZ stable.

I've used EasyTune 6 to reach 3.44 (433 x 8), ran p95 for about an hour without any issues...but I'm concerned about the settings EasyTune applies in my bios

    I'm running with a
    Q6600 @ 3.2
    Buffalo Firestix FSX1066D2C-K4G 4GB 2X2GB PC2-8500 (rated 5-5-5-18 @ 2.1v)
    GA-EP-DS3L (unfortunately, the L series, I know. )
    Xigmatek 1283
Coolermaster 690 II Advanced (2 additional 140mm fans, Two intake, 3 exhaust), so lots of airflow.
    Silverstone Strider Plus 850w PSU

If needed, I can post my current settings. Is there a way I can export the current settings to a file from the bios, or a program I might be able to use.

I'm currently using CPU-Z, CoreTemp, and P95, anything else you recommend?

Yes, please do get us your current 3.2 BIOS settings, you will need to manually do it as there is no easy way.

Template is in my signature, give us your settings and we can advise back on 3.4 settings for you to try.

You can check the actual voltages applied in EasyTune -> Tuner -> Advanced -> Voltage tab. Target voltage is the actuall what BIOS sets.
In genereal it is not recommended to leave Vcore, VTT(CPU Termination) , and CPU PLL on auto as BIOS may overvolt them dangerously.

Alright, so here's what Easy Tune 6 set for my voltage settings...

          BIOS is showing AUTO

CPU PLL may be more that is needed, set it manually to 1.55v or one step up, set VTT and vcore to their target voltage.
Why does MCH Core shows 1.3v, in your template it was 1.1v. Also DRAM Voltage shows 2.0v and in your template it is 1.8v.

I believe because they were set in ET6, and it doesn't match with the BIOS...weird, I know...I would think the settings from ET6 are the correct ones.

If you use easytune for anything, testing or such, please do not use the save button only apply. If you use save it will apply those settings everytime at startup.

Try these settings from what you mentioned above, moving to 3.4Ghz

                  Hey,

I did what you asked, but after about 1 hour of running P95, I receive an error on Core 3 indicating "FATAL ERROR: Rounding was 0.5, expected less than 0.4"... From my understanding this sounds like a memory error. I'm running with the 5-5-5-12 timings. Should I change something?

I keep thinking that EasyTune 6 is setting settings for me on startup... maybe I should go to defaults, and uninstall it.

Here is how to use Prime95, you will need to read this so you can tell what test you were using and possible causes of your errors
                    Orthos/Prime Tests explained

Yes, if you are unsure if easytune is setting things on startup go ahead and uninstall it for now and then continue your testing.

You may just need a small bump to Vcore or Vtt, not sure since you did not post your exact settings you are trying.
