Hi All<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

After around 6 months of trying different hardware etc, I am 100% sure that I don’t have a hardware issue, and there are settings within the BIOS that may require tweaking.

The machines sole purpose is for Windows 7 Media Centre 32bit.

My issue is that typically when the machine is put to sleep overnight, it powers off fully during the night - by this I mean that I can’t use the remote to power the machine back on - but I can use the power button on the case, and the machine will go through POST etc, then prompt if I want to boot in to safe mode etc.

When the machine goes in to standby, if you wake the machine it will normally resume alright - therefore it seems to be somehow related to how long the machine is in standby for.

The machine was running the F5 BIOS, and I have recently updated to the F10 BIOS, however this hasn't improved anything.

Performance isnt key for this machine - stability and standby is...

Any assistance that anyone could provide would be excellent.

Thanks
David

If left on overnight does it stays on? I mean there are no power outage of any kind?

Have you applied any changes in BIOS MIT section and wich if you have, or fo you just use optimized or failsafe defaults and which?

Hi, no power outages - the system is on a UPS.

I have tried Optimized and failsafe, along with the following changes:

PCI Express Freqency to 100Mhz
CPU Vcore 1.275000V
MCH Core 1.2000V
ICH I/O 1.550V
ICH Core 1.100V
DRAM Voltage 1.800V

Thanks
David

It came in a kit - TWIN2X4096-6400C5, which contains 2 x CM2X2048-6400C5 modules

Info can be found here: http://www.corsair.com/products/xms2/default.aspx

Thanks.

Thanks, here is the PDF in case you need it ever

So hey, 4GB or 8GB? You said 2 x CM2X2048-6400C5 which looks like it might be 2x 4GB so I wanted to be sure

If only 4GB the above settings should be ok and resume from sleep for you.

Total of 4GB - dont know what part of Corsairs website to believe.... the PDF refers 'Tested at JEDEC standard latency settings (5-5-5-18) at 1.9V', there website says 'Tested Latency 5-5-5-18 & Tested Voltage 1.8'

The module itself says 1.80V - however at 1.8V wont come out of standby, even after a few minutes - hence the voltage now been set to 1.9v...

DRAM Voltage set at 1.8V
Machine will crash EVERYTIME coming out of standby

DRAM Voltage set at 1.9V
Machine will come out of standby SOMETIMES - however generally the longer it is left, the less likely it is to come out of standby - generally overnight it will crap out.

I have made the changes from above - and hopefully tomorrow I will be happy!

Cheers

The problem you described is different than just not comint out of standby since the machine completely shuts down.

If it still persists I would try without the UPS.

Yes please do test like Chike mentioned if the issues persist.

I think though it should be OK as long as S3 is corrected in yout BIOS version, and the MCH Voltage I suggested is set and Performance Enhance Standard. I think those two were your main issues.

Ya that is why I asked to be sure about your memory, I found different voltages posted at a few places as well. Either way DDR2 is safe up to 2.1V anyway according to JEDEC standards so it will be fine no matter what.

What does it show in the SPD Tab of CPU-z, not that it matters much at these voltages, just wondered?

Hi Guys

The good news, the machine now will come out of standby - but blue screens if it has been left for a long period of time.....

I will get the SPD tab images tonight.

Cheers

Ahh, sounds like we are getting closer then!

It could be a BIOS issue still with this model, because not many people use it so that means not many people report problems so less gets looked at or fixed due to that.

May just need a bit more voltage is all, and it will be fine to do so. Then if more voltages still are not helping it could be either the BIOS or a slight memory compatibility issue perhaps (Likely BIOS issue though)
