  • GA-MA78LM-S2 four long beeps

Put together a new system build yesterday:

    Gigabyte GA-MA78LM-S2 motherboard
    Athlon II 425 (X3) retail.
    2G OCZ DDR2 800MHz SLI memory.
OCZ 500W PSU (from a working system)

When I put everything together and power up, the CPU fan and case fan turns on. But I received only 4 long beeps, pause, then the 4 long beeps repeats.

Search the forums and it seems to indicate RAM problem, so tried the following:

Tried reseating the RAMS, using each of the sticks in each slot, and it repeats the same.

Bought another two sticks of 2x2GB PATRIOT DDR2 800MHz RAM and did the same, but got the same problem.

So, I guess I can rule out RAM as the problem.
Anyone know what is the problem?

    Thanks

ohh man it seems like slot problem or bios update or try to find in the manual that the rams match the board or try reset the cmos

      Re: GA-MA78LM-S2 four long beeps
      1. Try booting with only one memory module in slot #1
      2. Enter the bios, load optimized bios settings
      3. Save settings and exit
      4. Re-enter the bios
      5. Press [CTRL] + F1
      6. Enter the M.I.T bios section
      7. Manually set DDR2 voltage to the max rated voltage for your memory
      8. Save settings and exit
      9. Power off your system and unplug the power cable from your psu
      10. Insert the second memory module
      11. Plug in the power cord and see if your system boots with both memory modules

You might have to manually change some other bios settings for your system.
You should run an 8 hour (or overnight) test with your new system using Memtest86+ latest version to verify that that there aren't any ram issues.

      Good luck!

        Re: GA-MA78LM-S2 four long beeps

Thanks for the replies. I forgot to say that it is not POSTing, nothing on the monitor, so I cannot get to the BIOS, and so I can't do what profJim says.

The manuals says to use DDR 800MHz/1066 and one other O.C. speed. I've tried with DDR2 RAM from OCZ and Patriot.

How can I know if it is BIOS if I can't even POST?

        thanks.

yes... tried with no RAM too, and it gave the same 4 long beeps, and then repeating over and over.

              Re: GA-MA78LM-S2 four long beeps

It's clear that your system is not posting.
Does your system go into a boot loop where you get the four long beeps and your system then tries again, giving four long beeps?

This post has some recommendations for doing a minimalist hardware boot.
You might need to try booting with different components, such as psu, memory, video card, or cpu.

You will probably need to remove your mobo from your computer case and set the mobo on a cardboard box or several books.

I had the same 4 long beep problem and no BIOS with the Gigabyte GA-MA78LM-S2 motherboard with Corsair memory. I replaced the Corsair with Kingston memory and the system booted OK. Now I need to know how to make the Corsair memory work.

                        Re: GA-MA78LM-S2 four long beeps

                        @Gigaboard
It might be a memory slot problem as Gasan said in post #2.
Try booting with only one memory module using the "B" memory channel instead of the standard "A" memory channel.

Have you tried any of the suggestions in posts #3 and #7?

I used Kingston KVR800D2N6/1G which is 1GB PC2-6400 CL6 to get the Gigabyte board to work. The memory that did not work was Corsair CM2X2048-6400C5C.

the corsair memory is not compitibale with this board so if you both that kingstone put all at auto if you wont overclock
