took my pc down to the local pc shop to get them to have a look for me and after about half hour they couldnt help me at all, i also took the brand new usb headset with me and they were as baffled as me, i then suggested they plugged my brand new usb headset into one of their pc's which they did and what do ya know, A FAULTY SET OF HEADPHONES !! the irony is the jack plug type i had before lost sound in left ear, the new set i bought came with a faulty left speaker ! so problem solved, new set in and they are fine.

so i thank you for your help guys and i appologise if i waisted any of your time
