    Questions about the X58A-UD7

    Ok, I'm considering getting this board and I've been a loyal customer and fan of Gigabyte products for a while and I have several questions.

    Does this board make any squealing or high pitched noises? This is my main concern because the UD5 did it and I was quite unhappy with it.

    Any issues with double booting? Because I found this quite annoying as well (Same problem with UD5)

    When I also owned a P55 setup, I found the UD5/UD6 board BIOS was buggy and I encountered several problems. I'm afraid some of these problems may be present on this board, hopefully not.

    Installing two or more DVD drives will cause the screen to hang at Boot DVD/CD screen

    When overclocked, the reset button does not work properly, instead when pressed you must wait for at least 3 seconds and the machine turns off instead and turns back on after a second (This is a very weird issue with the P55)

    When using Intel Turbo Boost when your RAM is set to 1600Mhz or over, the CPU will stay at a locked multiplier (My 860 ran at 2.9Ghz all the time and will not go over and Speedstep will not work)

    If anybody has experienced with this board please do tell me, I really want to try out this board, thanks.

    If by "Double-Booting" you mean the curious boot procedure where the machine seems to cycle itself a couple of times before coming up.... then yes it still does this on F3a

      That is normal BIOS "feature" itss check and recheck your settings before they are applied and corrupt your data.

      This only happens when you overclock, kind of a safety feature really. I have not used UD7 myself yet, but just saying for X58 in general. I made a video of this for a user here using Crucial Tracers to show them it is normal >>

      I assume your reset button issue may be with your P55 board itself, as that is not normal

      Dvd drive issues, I have also never seen. Are you connecting them properly, that would be into the SATA2_4/5 ports or into the Gigabyte/J.Micron Controller?

      No noises I have seen in any Gigabyte boards, and I have a P35, a P45, and a few X58's myself and have built tons more with them and never hear any noises. I do see reports of this here though and often it is the PSU or GFX card instead causing this. Board of course can do that though, just saying I have not personally seen that as normal at all.

        I just got this board yesterday and I can say it DOES make a squealing noise. It seems to be coming from the power mosfets or chokes (I will have to confirm this when I get home tonite). Bear in mind that even if the noise is coming from the motherboard, this could still be caused by the VGA card or PSU as previously mentioned.

        I believe in my case it could be caused by an underpowered PSU. I have an i7 920 @ 4.2GHz, an overclocked ATI 5850, both on water, lots of fans + fan controller, 4 HDD's and a DVD drive... all powered from a 500 Watt Silverstone Strider. The voltage rails are all strong and its a quality PSU but I think 500W may be a little small for this system.

        Also, it only squeals when I'm stressing both the CPU and the VGA card. I can stress them seperately until they are about to melt and no squeal, but fire up 3dmark vantage or modern warfare 2 and its squeal city.

        Then again, perhaps the squeal is related to somthing else, maybe the design of the power phases on the motherboard?

          Ok I just got this board and everything seems to be running fine, at the moment, doesn't have any of those issues I listed, except for that squealing noise, though I'll check if its my video card or PSU doing it.

          Haven't overclocked it yet though, I need better cooling for that to happen. My 950 is already idling at 35C at stock speeds which is high enough.

            I would highly suspect this is not enough power, as you already do as well

              It seems like the squealing noise is coming from the power supply, because when I tested it with another one the squealing wasn't present.

                  yea, time for a new PSU me thinks. I'll probably go for either antec signature series or corsair HX series. What do you guys think?

                    i'm on a quiet enermax modu82+ 625w but only have a single 4890 so suites my needs ....
