  • problem with Gigabyte GN-WP01GS pci wireless card

    Hi,
I am having a problem with the Gigabyte GN-WP01GS pci wireless card. I get ridiculously slow download speeds compared to the other computers in my apartment. When I speedtest.net with this card I get a 1.5 mbps download and the other computers in my apt get ~17 mbps.
I used the standard drivers that came with the card, but I read on newegg reviews that these were no good and many people said to get the new drivers at the RAlink website. I downloaded and installed the new driver and nothing has changed. I didn't uninstall the previous driver, not sure if that is the problem, but when I check the wireless card in device manager it says it is using the RAlink driver. The Gigabyte wireless utility that came with the card is still installed. I am not sure if I am supposed to uninstall it. This computer has the following specs:
    Windows XP w/ SP2
    Athlon X2 5200+
    4gig DDR2 RAM
    640gig hard drive-western dig

    any help would be appreciated

Re: problem with Gigabyte GN-WP01GS pci wireless card

I have that same wireless card. I've downloaded the drivers from Gigabyte. Here what it says for my drivers in the device manager.

      Driver Provider: Ralink Tech. Corp
      Driver Date: 6/2/10
      Driver Version: 3.0.9.1
      Digital Sig: Windows...blah blah blah

I'm curious what driver version you are using. There's like 2 older versions of the driver and 3.0.9.1 being the latest. I can't help ya with your problem, but I use a antenna that has a cord and sma connector so I can move the antenna to where I can get better signal. I was just looking at the user manual and this card is labeled "turbo" but the freaking manual says it's not even available on it. Why the freaking thing has "turbo" in it's name then? I'm only using it because it's a pci card & sma connector.
