your Chip is an MX25L3208E, according to the datasheet, on Page 7 your pinout matches the first post

Here is the datasheet for your: http://www.po-star.com/public/upload...164634_571.pdf

Here is the datasheet for the Bios in post #1 (see page 2 for pinout); http://www.macronix.com/QuickPlace/h...df?OpenElement

Re: How to fix "dead" dual BIOS motherboard if flashing failed

Hi guys, first off can I say a big thanks to tgun and lsdmeasap (great name!). I ran a LAN gaming centre for a couple of years and we had 50+ GA-X38-DS5's and DQ6's. A LOT of which died and most of which were recovered thanks to this thread.

I'm posting in case anybody can help me, I have 4 of these boards left over that I couldn't get to recover with your techniques, so I've taken to desoldering them and flashing new chips myself but with limited success.

The closest I've come so far is: I bought a strip of new MX25L8005 chips, flashed them to the latest release (tried others also), can boot into bios, can flash main bios via utility if booted into backup bios, etc...
But, once I pass bios and hand it over to check DMI they'll crash out and throw an "Main BIOS checksum error". This is as far as I can get.

So basically, does anybody here have any experience flashing these chips from new? Any experience with this error? Or, does anybody know a way to force the BIOS to update the Intel ahci ROM?

The reason I ask about the ROM is because I have a theory that this is where the problems may originate; I'm short on time so all I'll say is backup BIOS without ROM recovering main bios which had already updated the ROM...

Thanks in advance for any help!

Re: How to fix "dead" dual BIOS motherboard if flashing failed

Have you tried getting pre-flashed bios chips from ebay?

here is one of many; BIOS CHIP:GIGABYTE GA-X38-DS5 | eBay

        and ; BIOS CHIP:GIGABYTE GA-X38-DQ6 | eBay

I would give that a try.

Re: How to fix "dead" dual BIOS motherboard if flashing failed

Hi Vin, thanks for the suggestion but I'm fairly certain the chips I flashed are running ok, they verify fine after flashing and they get me into bios after all.
Although that said... you have given me the idea to try copy the image off a working board and see if there's any difference to the files I'm using.

It's when the bios would usually verify the DMI data that it crashes, I guess what I'm really curious to find out is if there is a way to force the bios to update the intel rom.
Perhaps a Gigabyte specific feature that I can force an update; or is it as simple as update only if newer version found?

Edit: I've modded the DS5 F7f BIOS with the latest Intel RAID ROM, will give it a blast tomorrow...

Something else that might be of use, try googling Award 6.0 BIOS - BootBlock Recovery. Profjim pointed me in that direction not long ago for an issue I had, and may be of use to you in regard to your current issue.

Thanks Vin, I'll read up on it.

I did manage to get one of the boards working with a normal image (haven't tried my updated one). But I've yet to give the other boards a proper go as I'm really busy in college atm.

I'll post the details of how I fixed them when I get the time, probably in a week or two.

              Cheers!

I don't really understand your issue, you want to set your resolution to 1280x768 but your wallpaper is 1024x768? Win8 on an old motherboard, I'd almost think its a compatibility issue. are there any missing devices in the device manager?

                  Vin

EDIT: can you maybe post a screenshot of your issue?

If your mobo has dual bios, change to backup bios. If not then you can google about making bios rescue disk (bootable floppy , cd/dvd or usb stick), wich has the working bios from manufacturers site and flash tool with command file that executes the flash (blind flash) and hope the bootblock part of your board works.

Other option is to remove the bios chip and flash it with physical flasher.

Re: How to fix "dead" dual BIOS motherboard if flashing failed

The techniques in this thread can only be attempted with a Gigabyte motherboard that has two physical bios chips.

We know absolutely nothing about your laptop's hardware setup or what problems make you think that fixing a supposedly dead bios will make everything OK.

Create a new thread in the Gigabyte forum if you have a Gigabyte laptop and provide a detailed description about how your laptop stopped working and tell us what the model name/number is for your laptop.

Do NOT post anything further in this thread.
This is NOT a troubleshooting thread.
