  • GA-EX58-UD3R + (I7 920) OVERCLOCK Help

I've been reading other posts and saw Lsdmeasap instructions to help people with OC. Following his recommendation, these are my bios settings now (i wish to reach 4.0Ghz OC - 191x21 but with low voltages). I already tried to do this OC but, since my knowledge regarding voltages is limitted, i got really high temperatures and some instability.

I'd really appreciate all the help i could get.

        Re: GA-EX58-UD3R + (I7 920) OVERCLOCK Help

i just got done overclocking my gigabyte ex58 ud5,i7 920 to 3.6 with the lowest temps i could get and they are really low

on all core the highest number i saw was 67c
temps stayed between 60c-66c most all the time

        vcore set to 1.25000v
        qpi set at 1.255v

i think this is lower than a lot of people are getting

im new to overclocking to but i can tell you how i got this far on mine if you think it will help you

          Re: GA-EX58-UD3R + (I7 920) OVERCLOCK Help

What cooler are you using? Your temps could be due to your cooler, or the use of Auto voltages.

Looks to me like you need to start over, you started from fail safe settings which will have hidden settings that may be incorrect per your hardware

Please load and apply optimized defaults and set ONLY your ram voltage then save/apply reboot back to the BIOS. You MUST reboot back to the BIOS before windows to set your Disk settings again, this is especially important if you are using RAID. IF you are using RAID please see here for my suggestions on how to apply optimized defaults with RAID >>>

Once you have done all of that please enter all your settings above back into your BIOS, EXCEPT the CPU/MCH Clock Drive Voltages. Those are Fail safe amounts and will cause stability issues likely

Once you are going again please post me also a screenshot of EasyTune running so I can see what you are getting for some of those Auto Voltages, and a screenshot of CPU Tweaker so I can see what some of those Memory Auto settings are giving you then I can advise back.

Here are both of the programs mentioned above >>>

          Easytune 6 Version B09.0417.1

Surely it'd help. Could you post your bios settings please?

Could you also tell me what's your regular ambient temperature?

                Re: GA-EX58-UD3R + (I7 920) OVERCLOCK Help

heres what i did to get there
you will have to add higher voltages and higher bclk, and multiplyer to get to 4.0ghz.

                to get a 3.667 oc

                enabled (xmp) profile 1
                diabled turbo boost
                set performance inhance to standard
took qpi link speed to 36x
                uncore frequency to x14
and spd to 6.0 (this will let your memory run lower so you no your overclock is ok memory wont be a probleme causing instability issues

                set my bclk to 193
                multiplyerto 19

set my memory volage to 6.0v
                set QPIv to 1.53500v
                set vcore to 1.40000v

now i saved and checked it with prime95 for a complete 1st test of 8 threads

it ran hot so shut down prime95
shut down computer completly whent back into bios(deleate)
start taking your QPI and VCORE voltages down a little at a time

                i took them to
                qpi 1.335v
                vcore 1.37500v
save and exited got into window with no problem
ran prime95 with coretemp running at same time
                temps 70c-77c
                still to hot

                start this proces over again
                next lowered to
                qpi 1.335
                vcore 1.325
temps are getting better just keep doing this till it wont pass prime95 and then raise it to your last or second to last setting and run prime for 8 hours.

then i set my memory divider ratio to 8.0 was at 6.0
then set uncore frequency to 3.4ghz or 3400ghz as shows in bios

while running prime95 run core temp to and keep an i on temps
i dont like anything over 80c or above

                    Killer454,

                    1) I'd also like to know what is your NorthBridge temperature after the OC (idle/full).

                    2) What is the ambient temperature for you?

                    3) What kind of cooler do you use?

To check inside the Windows whats your NorthBridge temperature during full load, you need to use some software. I use the "Everest Ultimate". You can download it at:

Lavalys - Comprehensive IT Security and Management

                          Hope it can help...
