  • Lsdmeasap help (ga-ep43-ds3l and e8400)

I was just wanting to see if you could help me get alittle more mhz out of my e8400. It's at 3.6 right now. Would like to get 4.0mhz. Runs great with no problems at all right now. Here is my settings. Also here is what I have installed.

    MB - ga-ep43-ds3l
    Memory - 2x1gig kingston pc6400 800mhz at 1.8v
Video Card - Radeon HD 4350

Re: Lsdmeasap help (ga-ep43-ds3l and e8400)

First you need to try whether your memory overclocks well enough, because you can only overclock further by increasin the FSB, and that also increases the RAM speed.
Set RAM timings to 5-5-5-18, voltage to 2.0V, lower the processor multi to 7 or 6 and increase FSB to 450. You may need to icnrease VCore here a bit. Set FSB Termiantion to 1.30V and CPU PLL to 1.55V. Set static tRead to 10 or Auto, Performance Enhance should be Standard.
If this is stable, try increasing the multiplier back to 9 and increase VCore, you will probably need about 1.4V in BIOS to get this stable.

Alright, I'll give that a try.

Re: Lsdmeasap help (ga-ep43-ds3l and e8400)

Can you please post a link to your ram?

Ya, as said above your ram need to overclock little to hit 4Ghz. It needs to do at least 900, and it may or may not without voltages outside your warranty (if that matter to you) if it is only 1.8V rated ram

Here is what you want to get at for 4Ghz, but please do link me to your ram or give me the model # so I can check it out

Re: Lsdmeasap help (ga-ep43-ds3l and e8400)

Thanks, all those settings would be fine for that memory. And I think you will be fine using 1.85-1.9V or so for your ram as the datasheet lists (+1.8V (+/- .1V)).

Now, that still does not mean you can for sure run it at 900Mhz, but it makes your chances better

Did you get time to try anything yet?

Ya, I tried the setting you gave me and no go. All it did was reboot, beeped 23-24 short beeps, then reset itself back to 3.0ghz. I spent like an 1 1/2 hr. trying different settings and the highest FSB I was able to get was 417. That gave me 3.75ghz. This ram won't do 900mhz. I think this memory is holding me back so I was thinking about getting some better memory. I was thinking PC28500 1066. Probably 2x1gig sticks for right now. Do you have any recommendation on memory? Thanks for your help.

Well you could have put a bit more voltage into it, maybe 2.0V with tRD at 8-9 should have worked at 900. But since you did not post your exact settings you tried, I'm not sure why it did not work for you as I suggested. I would have had to see what you set to maybe tell you for sure what to change

Sorry for the late reply, been getting pretty backed up lately here! Seems we have alot of new members each day here the past few months

Those you picked should be good, especially at 900, you can tighten them down to maybe 444-12 or 455-12

Let me know once you get setup if you need more help with those, I will be happy to help you get going

Ok, I got the new memory in now. So I use the same settings you gave me earlier with this memory? I'll post up settings this time.

Looks good! The CPU could go higher, but if you're happy with your current settings just stay there, they're fine for 24/7 use (as long as the pass Prime etc. of course, but I guess they do).

I would like to go higher with it. I've been reading alot and most everybody with the e8400 are getting 4.0ghz out of it. Also memory is pretty underclocked. There anyway ( I know their is) to raise memory back to it's factory speed (1066)? I guess that's what you would call it. Also this is my first time having a computer that can be overclocked. So I am still learning about all this stuff. Sorry to seem like a noob.

You could try using 2.40B memory multiplier to get 1005Mhz, but if you want 1066 or close to that you will need more or less FSB. As for the above that looks good, did you try 2.00B instead of D?

Either way a few settings/timings could come down, but we will leave those suggestions not posted until you decide what Speed you do want to run.
