Sorry to keep posting but, ever optimistic I think
I will need this problem sorted, too.
During my recent woes with the GA-MA78GPM-DS2H,
another thing that bothered me was an inability to
keep the sound driver working.
The installation disk said DL a patch from MS.
I downloaded the patch, but it rejected installation
in 64-bit XP.
I went ahead and installed the driver anyway.
Until the next boot, I enjoyed listening to a couple
of albums.
The next boot failed, hung at a black screen.
In safe mode I removed the sound drivers, but the same
black screen stalked the next boot.
I hadn't yet updated at MS or installed much software so
a clean reinstall seemed the easiest course.
If anyone knows a way to get sound to reliably working
in Win XP-64, please share.
