  • EP45-UD3r onboard sound any good?

    Morning,

I was looking to see if anybody has any luck with the onboard sound for this motherboard with Vista 64 premium. I just did a new install and was using a soundblaster live 24, which works fine except when I went into fallout3, voices fade in and out. I was going to either use the onboard sound or search for a new sound card. Any advice would be greatly apreciated.

I'm using onboard sound on my UD3P and it works great. I have a creative X-Fi card that I was hopping I didnt have to use and so far I dont. I'm using Vista 64 Home Premium

Thanks for the input, im going to take out the soundblaster, use the onboard. I've got 5.8 score for the cpu in vista, makes me want to overclock the cpu more, getting a 5.8 cpu score, everything else is 5.9. The cpu was running around 40c last night at 3.8 ghz while gaming and surfing. Thinking about trying the 425 fsb at 9.5 multiplier to get the 4.0 ghz.

I started using my onboard Realtek ALC889a, but after having add-in cards (mainly Creative) over the years, i found it just couldn't compete on quality. Although saying that i found it performed in Linux Distro's far better than it did in Vista.

Seeing that Vista 64 is the OS i use the most, I went for a Asus Xonar D1 card, which performs far better than the onboard sound. But it all comes down to what you use your PC for and how fussed you are with Audio quality.

Well I have the same board but I use XP. I tried the onboard and found it a lot better than the old days. It sounds real good. But I have an Audigy 2 ZS that I like a little better so I installed that. But yeesh it took me 8 hours to get that Audigy card working right. Stupid vreative drivers..or lack of.

I removed the SB live 24 and used the onboard sound, great improvement. Guess i'll go with that for a while until I find a replacement. Probably going to do what everyone else is doing and avoiding SB until they can get it right. Too bad, I liked the x-fi xtremegamer fatal1ty pro for xp pro sp3 32 bit but I sold that at the beginning of the year. Really thinking about giving HT Omega a try.

Have you checked out the Xonar cards?

Yes, the asus and the HT are the two I am thinking about. I cant remember why I got myself convinced on the HT though, I think it was more the vista 64 drivers than anything now that i've gone cold turkey on xp and moved to vista 64.
