  • GA-965P-DS4 OC Help

    Hi there

Ive just gotten my first Gigabyte system.
    Its consists of:
    E6600
    8GB Corsair XMS2 PC6400
    GF8800GT
    Water cooled.

Ive played abit with the OC, but ive ran into some problems.
I can get it up to 3.6Ghz with the voltage setting on Auto, but then my sound isnt very good, alot of scratches. when i have CPU load.

Ive tried to find a lower clock speed, but i still recive the sound problems.

So i quess i have to set the voltage manual, and im not very good at that.

So i was hoping someone could help me here.

    Best regards Asada

      Re: GA-965P-DS4 OC Help

Do you have the latest sound and chipset drivers installed? If not, for sure update those first >>>

Then, please post me what you are using for your BIOS settings and I will advise back. Ya for sure Auto is not the way to go. Also since you are using Auto for now, please post me a image of CPU-z so I can see what voltage your getting for Auto, I want to see the Main page of CPU-z Only for now >>>
      CPUID

You may also want to update your BIOS, DO NOT USE @BIOS. Here is a Guide I wrote on how to safely flash your BIOS >>>

Please also post me a link to your exact ram, or tell me the model # off the sticker or what Voltages it says on the sticker

This is Just a template I use to ask people their settings, pay no attention to the numbers in it, replace with yours

          Re: GA-965P-DS4 OC Help

Here would be optimal ranges up to 3.6 from what you posted above >>>

You did not post the MIT Picture! You should for sure have Act to Act Delay! Try this, on the MAIN Page of the BIOS hit Control + F1 then go into MIT and you should see any hidden settings

Here is what i found in my bios:

Robust Graphics Booster___________ [Auto or Fast or Turbo]
          CPU Clock Ratio ____________ [9]
          CPU Host Clock Control_ [Disabled]
          CPU Host Frequency (MHz)__________ [333-401]
          PCI Express Frequency (Mhz)_______ [100]
          C.I.A. 2__________________________ [Disabled]
System Memory Multiplier (SPD)____ [2.00] <<< At 400 FSB this would be 800Mhz ram. Under 400 FSB you may want to use 2.40 (like at 333 FSB 333x2.40=800) Just keep in mind, what you set here is X CPU FSB (Host Freq) So Ram speed is always CPU Host Freq (FSB) X System Memory Multiplier = Memory Speed

DRAM Timing Selectable_______ SPD __ [Option 1] (Can only choose between Option 1 & 2) << Option 1 until your ram is over 1000Mhz
          ------------------------------------------------------------
          Performance Enhance = [Standard]

          CAS Latency Time________________ 5
          Dram RAS# to CAS# Delay_________ 5
          Dram RAS# Precharge Delay_______5
          Precharge Delay (tRAS)__________18

ACT to ACT Delay (tRRD)_________3-5 << Should for sure be there, see above note about Hotkey

Rank Write to READ Delay________ 6-12
          Write to Precharge Delay_________ 8-14
          Refresh to ACT Delay______________ 62-80
          Read to Precharge Delay__________ 4-8
          Static tRead Value_______________ 7-12
Static tRead Phase Adjust________ [Auto] << Always Auto

          CPU/PCIEX Clock Driving Control [800mV]
CPU Clock Skew Control [normal] << Same thoughts as below, only 50-150
GMCH Clock Skew Control [Normal] << ? Sorry I meant to remove this? Your bios does not have this correct? If it does, then 50-300 can help
          ---------------------------------------------------------------
          System Voltage Control____ [Auto]
DDR2 OverVoltage Control__ [Normal] << Manually set to 1.9 (+0.1)
PCI-E OverVoltage Control_ [Normal] << +0.1-.2 for stability
(G)MCH OverVoltage Control [Normal] << +0.25-.4 for 8GB of ram
FSB OverVoltage Control___ [Normal] <<< +0.1-0.2 for stability
CPU Voltage Control_______ [1.325V] << 1.325-1.45 << All up to your chip, keep in mind what you set here is less in windows at idle and less then that at load. My 6600 I had to use 1.44 or so actual to do 3.6. You can see actual voltage with CPU-z

Limit CPUID Max. to 3.....................: [Disabled]
          No-Execute Memory Protect............: [Enabled]
CPU Enhanced Halt (C1E)................: [Enabled]<< Disabled for overclocking
CPU Thermal Monitor 2(TM2) ...........: [Enabled]
CPU EIST Function.........................: [Enabled] << Disabled for overclocking
Virtualization Technology................: [Enabled] << Disable if you do not use Vmware/Virtual PC type programs

          Integrated Peripherals
Legacy USB Storage Detect___________________[Enabled] << Disable for now, but must be enabled if you want to flash your BIOS with USB Stick or use a external USB Hard drive.
