  • First post first oc looking for stable 3.50 OC

    Hi,

    First my system includes:
    GA-EP45-UD3P BIOS F4
    ATI Radeon HD 2600XT 512MB PCI-E GDDR3
    G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel 2.0 - 2.1 v 5-5-5-15
    Q9550 E0 step VID 1.25
    (3) 750 GB NS Seagate drives Raid 5
    (1) 250 GB NS Seagate drive non-raid OS only
    CNPS 9700 Led CPU fan
    Versapoint RF USB keyboard

I have had the MB for about 3 weeks trying to get a stable 3.50 using the D stap (400 latch) before I tweak the memory. I am looking for a base that I can use for settings before I touch the memory. When I try using the D strap on any OC above 3.40 it will hold in the BIOS until I shutdown the PC and shutoff the powerstrip. If I turn the powerstrip on and then the PC the BIOS resets back to defaults. If I use the B strap (333 latch) it will work with some OC's and not others. I thought I had a stable 3.50 using the 2.40B (333) but it lasted a couple of days and then reset on the third day. I did some testing with Prime95 for 24 hours and all was fine with the 2.40B. So, what I want to do know is get some base settings for a 3.50 using the D strap (400 latch) and see if I can get a stable system. It seems know matter what I try above 3.40 OC I can't get it stable. I use the PC for video encoding. I had the Reads up to 8500 and would like to get at least this amount if possible at 3.50. Thank you for any help.

Re: First post first oc looking for stable 3.50 OC

      Hi,

Thank you for a quick response.
These are for the 3.50 setup as this is where I would like to be.

The setup will work if I don't shutdown the PC and unplug from the power strip. Once I disconnect from the powerstrip and start up the PC it resets to the CPU defaults. I did try the 2.66D strap as well but the PC starts a series of 20 beeps until I shutdown the PC. Thank you for any help.

Re: First post first oc looking for stable 3.50 OC

Try more MCH core v. like 1.24-1.28 or even 1.32. I think 1.28 should be good

Also try lowering the MCH ref to .70 or maybe lower
        New Q9650, Gigabyte UD3P, 4GB OCZ Platinum, Asus TOP 4850, Antec TP3 550W, Vista 64 SP1/XP SP3.

Re: First post first oc looking for stable 3.50 OC

Thanks Speed and LSD, that doesn't sound right!
I will give your suggestions a try tonight.
One other thing that has happened the last couple of times the PC was on is that after I leave it for a while I think it is about 2 hours + and both times the PC was doing work. Last night my Raid 5 array was rebuilding and the other night It was encoding a DVD, I came back to see how things were going and the PC was shutdown. When I started it, both times, it would not reboot but come back to windows desktop( Vista sp1). If I checked the PC every hour or so it would stay on but after 2 hours it would shut down. Does this sound like a heat problem or could it be related to the stability of the PC? The core temps while these jobs were running was in the low to mid 30c range. Thanks again. I will report back later tonight.

Re: First post first oc looking for stable 3.50 OC

I tried all the suggestions and I got my second BSOD on the first change I did. So I had to clear the CMOS and reload a test 3.50 profile I saved. I tried smaller incremental changes from your suggestions but everything I tried caused a series of beeps and I had to push the reset button to shutdown the PC. So, I tried to decrease some of the voltages and had the same results many beeps and a reset. Any other suggestions? I may have to go back to the 333 latch on a lower OC to make sure it is still functioning.

Re: First post first oc looking for stable 3.50 OC

I wanted to follow up on the PC shutting down on it's own. After the testing I did with your suggestions I decided to load the optimized defaults and make some changes to the Power Options so that nothing will go down ever for all settings and leave the PC up over night to see if it shut down. I will follow up in th morning.

Re: First post first oc looking for stable 3.50 OC

Well, I have one bit of good news this morning. After, reseting to optimized defaults the PC has been up for 8 hours and the Raid array is 43% rebuilt. I will leave it up for the day and see if the array gets completed. Still not sure what to do about the 3.50 OC. I will wait for more suggestions. I know the guru's here will come up with something. Thanks again for your help.

Re: First post first oc looking for stable 3.50 OC

Last night the Raid array finished rebuilding successfully and the PC was up for over 24 hours. The shutting down issue looks like it is resolved. As far as the 3.5 OC stability issue goes I think I will go back to get a stabile OC at a 333 latch and work my way up again, 3.2, and see if i can get to a 400 latch. Unless someone has some other suggestions. Thank you.
