  • Cannot add memory - EP45-DS4

    Hello

I want to have dual boot so I wantd to increase my RAM to 4G, I assume this mobo can do that. The RAM I am using is Corsair TWIN2X2048-8500C5D.

Since it did not work I did a total swap for my old to the new and as long as there is only 2G it works fine. If I try 4G it does not even get to XP home loading screen, BIOS says RAM 640, ext. RAM 1763 or something, if I try 3G BIOS says its RAM 640, ext. RAM 1024, and it boots upto user login and crashes when I login, if its 2G, in BIOS it is RAM 640 ext. RAM 2046.

Now I don't know if the problem is if this mobo supports this RAM module upto 4G, if it does, does XP home not like you changing RAM amounts as it goes above its limit, ie., if you want to put it in and do a fresh XP install?

    Help

I know XP PRO can see only 3.5GB. Not sure if it's the same for XP Home or not. Try installing Vista and.. what version of your BIOS do you have?

This cannot be just a XP issue, BIOS does not show correctly 3G or 4G, only 2G, so first have know why the mobo cannot see all, is there a setting in BIOS if you add memory?

          Found the fault!!!
          I don't like it!!!

My orginal RAM, CORSAIR TWIN..... Ver. 4.1
My new RAM CORSAIR TWIN..... Ver. 6.1

Not compatable, at least in my PC, will be posting to corsair why they make devices that are not compatable when they use the same manu. code, How is anyone supposed to know which versions they will get!!!

NO there is not, and XP Home does support 4GB, but that is total with PAE Enabled >>>

Two different revisions of ram will most likely not be very compatible at all as the Ram Guy told you at Corsair. You can RMA your old set for a new set just setup a RMA is all you need to do. And try to be a little nicer over there and he likely would have already suggested that to you (Just trying to help )

You would have 3-3.25 or so if you did not have such a large Memory GFX Card

I spoke to the seller, there tech support suggested increasing voltage to ram from 2.1v to 2.2v, they said CM2X1024-8500C5D ver.4.1., 5.1, and 6.1 are compatable with the extra voltage, I do not want to do this, what do you think?

Is it better to go with the 2X 2G version of thr dominator series but then my aim here is dual boot XP home and vista 64-bit, will it work?
I here that if you put 4G ram the MCH will have to turn the ram down to 800MHz not the 1066MHz, becuase the MCH cannot keep up, is this true

PS. SEE PICTURE, SAME MEMORY, JUST THE VER. DIFFERENCE

Re: Cannot add memory - EP45-DS4

I reordered and got likely another set of 2X 1GB dominator and they are version 4.1 like my orginal, all up and running and also overclocked CPU as before. XP shows 3.25GB.

Moral of story, if you want to upgrade from 2GB to 4GB, go buy a totally new set or hope you get another 2GB set that is the same ver. as the one you have else it may or may not work.

Re: Cannot add memory - EP45-DS4

To answer you, no that is incorrect you can run 4x1 or 2x2 at 1066 for sure. Here is a Quick test I did a while ago at 1200 with 4x1 Crucial >>>

And yes those would have all been fine at 2.2V+ likely, I just could not be the one to suggest that to you since you could easily RMA them to match up
