Hi, I just put together my new PC and I would like to overclock it to 3.0ghz+ if possible.

    Specs:
    -Vista Ultimate 64-bit
    -Intel Q8200 quad-core
    -Gigabyte P45 UD3P
    -8gb Crucial Ballistix DDR-800 4-4-4-12 2.0v Link Link
    -XigmeTek s1283 120mm HSF w/Arctic Silver 5
    -Corsair 450vx power supply
    -3x 7200rpm Sata HDD's
    -Pioneer DVD burner
    -Rosewill Mid-ATX case (2x120mm fans)
-Nvidia 8400gs PCI (9800gtx PCI-e coming next week)

K, try this range. CPU Voltage will all depend on your CPU and cooling, so just set high enough you for sure boot then you can lower later on >>>

Hey, did you load and apply optimized defaults yet, or have you flashed the BIOS and loaded optimized defaults yet? Just wondering.

Re: Help me overclock my q8200 / UD3p please

Wow, thanks for the info, I'll try it now.

Hey, did you load and apply optimized defaults yet, or have you flashed the BIOS and loaded optimized defaults yet? Just wondering.
Umm...not to sound like a total noob, but what do you mean "optimized defaults"?
And no, I haven't flashed the BIOS, is it hard?

Re: Help me overclock my q8200 / UD3p please

Na, it dont sound like a Noob, you cannot learn without asking!!

Please read this. And do read it all so you know what to expect when you flash or load optimized, which you do either way (If you flash or when you build a system) >>>
        http://forums.tweaktown.com/f69/bios...h-guide-27576/

You will have to reset all your settings again, ok because they are posted here. Except for your SATA/Disk settings those HAVE TO be set again before you load winows

Re: Help me overclock my q8200 / UD3p please

          It worked!!

It's sitting at 49-55c @ 100% load across all the cores running Prime95 v25.6 for quads with the "maximum heat" setting. It's been running for 45 minutes now. What I'm assuming to be the NB and SB are at 36-39c.

          CPU-z shows:
          2.975ghz @ 1.232v
          425 bus (1700mhz FSB)

What's the max temps I should go for? (not that I'm trying to burn the chip up)

Do you think 475 FSB (3.325ghz) would work?

          Thanks again.

Re: Help me overclock my q8200 / UD3p please

Ya, that would work, may need some more volts though and looser ram timings depending on what you used.

Try to keep load temps under 65-70 and you will be good to go

Re: Help me overclock my q8200 / UD3p please

Hey, just wanted to post a screenshot for ya...I'm excited, this is my first overclock.

That was with a 100% load with Prime95 at the "maximum heat" setting for 1hr38min (I just got tired of waiting). The hottest core hit 56c and the coolest 49c.

I also didn't tweak any of the previous settings you gave me, though I'm curious how much V-droop* is normal? Before I stopped Prime95 it was at 1.216v and it's now at 1.264v.

              Thanks again

Re: Help me overclock my q8200 / UD3p please

Vdrop and Vdroop varies with all boards and at all voltage settings/ranges/values, so there is no "Norm"

                Temps look good!
