  • Is my system Underperforming?

Hello I am running a system with these specs and believe that my computer is under performing:

    Intel C2D E8400
    Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3R
    Xigmatek HDT-S1283
    2x2GB DDR2 800 PC6400 OCZ Gold (OCZ2G8004GK)
    625W MODU+82 Enermax PSU
    Radeon HD 4870x2
    Western Digital SE16 640GB
    Antec P182 SE
    Samsung 245BW 24" LCD

I noticed that I can't run games on the settings reviews say i should be fine with. Mainly Farcry 2. I decided to do a SuperPi and wPrime tests at stock clock and for 1M in superpi I average around 23seconds and wPrime 32m I get 60s. These values seem a bit high to me compared tot he reviews I have read. I have recently recieved a new CPU from intel because i thought this was a CPU problem however it still exists!. I have tried two sets of OCZ ram however still around the same results.

My friend has the same cpu /mobo/HD however different GPU and memory, he gets around 11 seconds @ 4.0ghz. Could this be bios settings or a hardware issue?

I have set all my bios settings all to auto except for timings which is the recommended 5 5 5 18 @ 2.1v

    Re: Is my system Underperforming?

Your system is definitely underperforming. I am able to max out Far cry2 at 1440x900 with no AA and as you can see from my sig, my system is worse than yours.

Are you on xp or vista?

What about other games besides far cry 2? Is your video card good? What about your memory?

Have you ran memtest or 3Dmark?

yeah i cant even max L4D or TF2... I have an old x1900xt i can try swapping.. Whats concerning to me mainly is the superpi and wprime. they should be faster around 15-17 seconds in superpi..

              Re: Is my system Underperforming?

Ill try that, I have been testing with two ram kits though, both from OCZ, and 1 i recently got back from an RMA. OCZ2G8004GK is the 4gb (2x2gb) kit where OCZ2VU8002GK ist he 2gb (2x1gb) kit

Could any1 with the similar setup try running superpi and tell me your results? 3.0 stock e8400 with ga-ep45-ds3r?

                Re: Is my system Underperforming?

Well you are comparing your system at stock to others that are overclocked right? That is no comparison

Please give me a link to your ram, and how much of it you are using and then fill this in with what you are using and I will advise. But if you are at stock, then there is likely not much you can improve alot, maybe some ram timings >>>

                  Re: Is my system Underperforming?

yes i understand that my friend's computer is OC'ed thus his 10/11 seconds of calculation for superPI, however from some reviews i have read an e8400 @ stock 3.0ghz should get somewhere around 15seconds.. mine is at 23seconds for 1M calculation :(

He is gonna go back to stock and then benchmark again for my purposes...

                      Re: Is my system Underperforming?

I switched to a 4550 cuz i thought that maybe the 4870x2 was drawing too much power on my psu. I also disabled c1e and eist to test again.
Even worse scores for 3d vantage mark , i only ran CPU tests.

WOW, that is odd! Your realtemp score is only half stock of a normal one?

I dont know stock vantage CPU Score, but here is mine at 4Ghz (8174 Points CPU) >>>

Tomorrow afternoon I will SuperPI and RealTemp test mine at stock for you and see what I get, you may have a faulty CPU... Have you pushed alot of volts(Vcore or Vtt) into it or left Vtt or PLL in Auto at a high overclock?

                          Re: Is my system Underperforming?

Man that looks very wrong. I'm really sorry for you, it must be very disappointing.

                          My E8400 stock @ FSB 333MHz x9 = 3GHz does SuperPI 1M in about 15.6s. I'm running a GA-P35-S3G mobo, 2x1GB Geil Black Dragon @ 333MHz x3.2 = 1066MHz, 5-5-5-15, and WinXP 32 bit.

3Dmark06 score with HD 4850 also stock is about 11500.

Your performance really looks wrong. Even if SuperPI was heavily dependant on memory (which I suspect it isn't) I wouldn't expect that much difference due to slower memory. Here's some test suggestions that may narrow down the problem:

                          1. Thoroughly test your memory with Memtest86+ (boot from CD or floppy).
                          2. Test your CPU passes the Intel Burn Test at stock settings.
                          3. If you have disk space for another boot partition then set up a new WinXP 32 bit install and try that.
                          4. If you have access to a compatible system (a friends maybe) then try swapping your memory and testing. Then try swapping CPU and testing. That might narrow down where the problem is.

                          Good luck.
