  • EP45-DS3R and 4 x 2GB Dual Channel Setup

    The memory timing sticky has lots of good information about setting up 2 x 2GB memory configuration that I had no idea aobut, but I still have a few questions.


    I have a Intel Q6600 running at the default 2.4 Ghz (I haven't attempted an overclock yet) with the following 2 sets of dual channel memory installed on my EP45-DS3R (just recently updated to the most recent bios):

    2 x 2GB OCZ DDR2 PC-6400 800 MHz Nvidia SLI Edition (4-4-4-15, 2.1V)
    2 x 2GB Crucial Ballistix DDR2 PC-6400 800 MHz (4-4-4-12, 2.0V)

    What should the bios settings look like for DRAM Performance Control, Standard Timing Control, Advanced Timing Control, Channel A, and Channel B, MCH Core Voltage, and DRAM Voltage when using two different types of memory like this? If I choose to remove the set with the worse timing (OCZ) will it improve my system performance?

    You should not be mixing ram, you are going to have nothing but headaches. I cannot advise any settings for that really, other then very POOR performing ones that will be loose enough to allow them to MAYBE work together. But in the end it is not very likely at all that you would ever get that stable.

    Yes you would be much better off with the Crucials then until you can get more of either that would be the same. I would use one 2x2 set and sell the other and buy a new matching set if you want to run 8GB

      OK, I have removed the ocz set of memory from the equation. What would the appropiate bios settings be for the single set of Crucial Ballistix 2x2GB?

          I have done as you suggested and picked up a second set of the same maker and model ram so now I have 2 sets of dual channel RAM to rum (total 8 GB). How would these settings change/need adjustment for the additional set of 2 x 2 GB?

            What did you get stable and use on 2x2 and I will advise? IN genral >>>
            more trfc, and maybe more trtp, twr, twtr, and likely more MCH Voltage and MCH Skew
