Just posting this error with GA-EX58-UD4P for any BIOS engineers that may be reading this thread. I will be sending this report in as well this week.
BIOS F8a S3 sleep resumes just fine 190-210+ Blck, with one exception, after resume the CPU turbo multiplier drops out. So from 21 multiplier you always get 20
On a side note, Easytune if used to change ANYTHING will always change the multi to 20. Always! I tested both F8a, and F7e using the latest Easytune B09.0417.1, and version B09.0216.1, because I had thought maybe the Easytune Multiplier drop was due to a newer Version of Easytune but it is not.
Not a huge PI difference, but it is for sure a difference and you can see several programs also pickup the multi drop as well. Easytune was never opened and is removed from startup by StartupCPL and ET's own menu in the toolbar, so no part of it is loaded ever without starting it manually.

F8a
Before S3 (21 Multi BIOS F8a)
After S3 (20 Multi BIOS F8a)
F7e
Before S3 (21 Multi BIOS F7e)
After S3 (20 Multi BIOS F7e)
It seems to me that after S3 sleep was corrected (In F7e), the CPU multiplier drop to 20 issue became present when using Easytune, or after a resume from S3. I do approve for sure of the changes made in F7e, and the improvements by F8a. I do not use S3 personally so not really an issue to me, but MANY users complain about S3 not working, so I am very happy to see a step in the right direction!! Seems we are almost there, F8a has some nice voltage improvements, things are very close to what you set in the BIOS less voltage seems to be stable and stronger then previous BIOS's.
I hope they come out with a new beta to fix this...
New tool version, now you can see Turbo is disabled on Resume from S3. This was taken just now, after a resume from S3, you can see it is disabled and the enable button does not work (It does ON/Off before S3 though!) >>>
I will be passing along this info, I am sure they already know though.
The BIOS for GA-EX58-DS4 hasn't been updated for quite some time. When I bought this motherboard, the price was close to the other X58 models and it seemed like a good deal, however now I wish I bought something which wasn't made by Gigabyte. It's been an experience filled with tons of bugs and errors, some of them got fixed, some didn't. Is it going to be updated soon? GA-EX58-Extreme - F7c GA-EX58-UD5 - F7d ## GA-EX58-UD4 - F5b GA-EX58-UD4P - F8a GA-EX58-UD3R - F6b GA-EX58-UD3R-SLI - F3 GA-EX58-DS4 - F6c These are the current versions atm. UD4P already got to F8 test bios series while GA-EX58-DS4 is still lagging behind. I'd really like to hear something on the matter.
I'm now running 2000MHz OCZ Reaper DDR3 @ 200x10 on my GA EX58 Extreme with a 920. It booted fine into Windows the first try with standard settings 9-9-9-30 and passed 5 passes of memtest+.
Now trying Cas8 and see what happens.
So whatever issue you have with it... it's not standard.

I am sure it will roll out soon, they have just made UD5 a new beta this week so I think once reports on the changes in that come in the rest of the X58 series will be updated. I think they are fixing S3, New AHCI rom, and false cold bootups.
What issues are you have anyway? Just wondering, as I myself am waiting on a new beta for UD4P since F8a has been around for almost a month now I think and it needs some changes for sure.
I just sent in an email last night to Gigabyte about several things, hopefully I will hear back from them tonight. If I do I will see if I can get any info on the plans for new x58 series releases and I will be sure to ask if DS4 is included.

Can someone post the LINK for donwload this "new tool" ???

I hope they do release one. The EX58-DS4 has been removed from all online shops I can look at.
The problems:
-old 1.07 AHCI ROM from 2006 - slow boot
-sleep doesn't work
-false "OC failed" (no O/C was done to any component, just had the RAM set to its native frequency and it just sets it back to 1066 if it reboots more than twice - because of some OS)
-MSR and DSDT problems - they're not as compatible as ASUS' MSRs and DSDTs on X58 + i7 (they broke the compatibility Core 2 Duo and LGA775 mobos had with experimental OSes like PureDarwin and with some older Linux kernels)
It's very annoying to see cheaper (obviously, the more expensive than DS4 ones too) X58 motherboards get updates for the BIOS and DS4 doesn't.
I've also contacted tech support and informed them of the MSR issue - they said "we'll notify the BIOS team about the issue" - that was about 3-4 months ago.
I am not sure about the MSR and DSDT issues, as I do not know what that means. Is it some Linux issue?
All boards P35/45/x48/x58, ect are using 2006 Intel ROM. That update is coming, just working out the kinks
False OC failed messages do not mean always overclocking. You can get that at stock if you do not have the proper settings per your hardware. Like if your QPI needs more voltage then you are giving it to run at 1600, not enough Vcore, incorrect ram timings/voltages, ect. So just letting you know, this issue is not a BIOS Issues, just user error with settings. If you need help with your settings I can help.
S3 issues are being corrected, they almost have it I think aside from the Turbo disabled on resume. Once they find the issue there I am sure all of the X58 series will get the needed update to address that as well.
They are indeed rolling out the new BIOS's, just be patient. I have been, and I could ask about it daily but I do not because I know how that would be to a person.
DS4 has not been forgotten, your last Beta was only one behind mine (DS4P). I mean We got F7e the same day you got your last beta posted (3.13.09) and DS4P has only had one since (3.31.09)
BIOS updates are generally all similar, I mean once an issue is corrected in one version and found to work proper, then the rest of the series is implemented with the fix. So unless an issue is model specific they would wait to implement a fix only after a mainstream test beta has proven to correct it. Those methods get the issues pinned down and the most feedback generated as more users buy the mainstream so beta test results with those models would generate more answers. So really even if you had a new beta today, without the mainstream ones having corrected something it would likely not be corrected in a beta for your board yet.
I am sure less users bought the DS4 over others so that may be why you are behind a little, but not much from what I see. F6c should have corrected S3 issues for you I think as F7e did for me, but maybe not fully yet since they of course are still working on it.
Just be patient they are working hard trust me, the are not just sitting around for sure
Here is the dates and release info and order of all betas since your last beta, you can see the progress is universal.
The BIOS Engineers have been working on getting the new Intel ROM into the older boards first, we are next I would hope (Unless P35/45 comes first? Either way we will follow)
Where you see a model left out, generally this is due to the issue maybe either not been corrected yet so a mainstream newer beta is pushed until it is, or that model does not have those issues present and may not need an update
They have just been busy with SO many models, we will get ours for sure!
They haven't been that open when they replied to me. It left me the impression "we might fix things some day - or not". Thanks for taking the time to tell me about these things.
That OC failed error only resets my memory frequencies. The latencies for the memory are +1 bigger than what the RAM modules report - to avoid problems. The other settings for voltages/frequencies are at their respective factory defaults.
The MSR issue is about FSB detection, from what I remember, the FSB wasn't being detected properly and I would get continous reboots with some OSes.
Asus and Intel X58 mobos don't have this problem (other mobos from other companies may not have it either, this is what I could test on) - it's backwards compatible.
As for the DSDT, I can provide the tweaked DSDT I've been using for Linux to get rid of the problems.
P.S: What about the promised Nvidia SLI for all X58 mobos?
I'm glad I could ease your mind a little, you just have to keep in mind the tech support team likely has 1000's of emails a week and has to translate them all. So replies are likely always shorter than expected and may not help as much as you would hope.
I am not sure exactly what you mean about your memory Freqs, but stock voltages and freq may or may not cause you issues depending on the ram you are using and the ram speed and timings. Auto is often not enough or too much, so if you would like help with things please do make a new thread with your full specs and settings you are using now and I would be glad to offer you some advice.
If you are still getting red warnings in the MIT then you likely do need to adjust somethings.
Ya, Ok I got you about the MSR I think. MSR 0x198 picks up the X58 Multi. Which MSR are you speaking of anyway for the FSB/Blck if you know I will see if Unclewebb can create a tool real quick that can pick it up, then you will see if it is your board/BIOS causing your issue with that or if it is picked up properly and the issue lies within the OS you are using. If you do not know, I am sure he does and I will ask anyway
I have no Linux experience, that is why I asked because I was lost on your comment there. Sorry about my lack of knowledge in that area
SLI was only announced for the following boards, Looks to be only all Ultra Durable 3 models (Or at least ones named as such UDx) >> GIGABYTE - News - Motherboard
I do see it says "Entire X58 series" but it does list the ones it applies to and DS4 is not listed. You are correct though, Entire would include your board so I would be asking them directly about this if I was wanting to use it. However you do have to keep in mind you bought a Crossfire only board knowing that so you should have only expected to use 2 ATI Cards anyway (Just saying, from a retailers point of view ya know )
It may not may not even be possible due to hardware limitations. You could always try the crossflash, info and tools are posted here in this section and the motherboard section on how to do it (Page 2) Keep your warranty in mind though if you think about this route as it is not advised by me or Gigabyte in any way at all......... I am just informing you of available options
Can someone post the LINK for donwload this "new tool" ???
i7 Turbo 4.2 Created By Unclewebb (RealTemp Author)
If Turbo mode is enabled in the bios then placing a check mark beside this option should Disable your Turbo. If Turbo mode isn't enabled in the bios then selecting this shouldn't do anything
Final version should be coming soon with it's own page at XS
Works great, I have been messing with the past few versions and they have all worked fine! This will not though re-enable your Turbo after a S3 resume , tested that myself when he first gave me the version with Turbo Enable/Disable
