you need FPT Z170 Tool for DOS (with bootable USB).... fpt_DOS-Z170 -download this first.
-then make bootable usb stick with , in my example "rufus". -copy those files from link above to usb stick + bios file you want to downgrade. -i have used backup file (saved old bios bin) which is already named "bios.bin", otherwise rename original downloaded bios file to bios.bin. -boot from usb (bios settings)
What about messing the Realtek Gbe Lan MAC Address? Or it won't affect z170 MB with Realtek Gbe Lan chip? Thanks again.

Can someone please explain in ABSOLUTE DETAIL the process of rolling back from a bios that is at or past a bios revision with a "*This BIOS prohibits updating to earlier version BIOS" message appended to it. My exact situation is as follows:
M/B: GA-Z170N-Gaming 5
CPU: 6700k
SSD: Samsung 950 Pro
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit
I am trying to roll back from my motherboard's f22 bios to f4.
What I have done:
I have meticulously followed every guide using the ftp z170 files in combination with the f4 file for a bootable USB or usage in q-flash (Those are my only options, explained later). The problem is that when I try to boot from the USB it just cycles into the bios instead of automatically rolling back the bios like many people said it would. So next I go into q-flash, where I can point to the renamed f4 file (bios.bin) as per many guides instructions. When I try to q-flash, I still receive the error; "The current BIOS image is outdated. Please update your BIOS to the latest version!".
I must solve this issue via the bios q-flash utility or by directly booting something? because the f22 bios wreaked so much havoc on my w7 install (which was a clean install), that I can't move the mouse properly or have the computer register any drives I plug in. USB 3.0 Drivers were not properly installed during installation (checked in device manager) as well, so I literally get to stare at the most fubar copy of windows 7 (@the desktop) and can't install anything via USB to try flashing from inside the windows environment.
I made an account to post this so forgive any noobness in regards to how this forum operates. Any help is greatly appreciated.
If the Z170 FTP tool isn't working out, what do I do? Booting from USB just goes immediately into BIOS screen, q-flash'ing from bios.bin still results in "outdated image, please update to latest bios version" or however it's worded. Currently using GA-Z170N-Gaming 5 (F22 BIOS) trying to get back to F4. I have followed every guide to a tee btw for creating the usb! Please help me, this is crazy frustrating.

I can't use any tools in the windows environment because the BIOS has messed up stuff so badly that my clean install of windows won't register any drives plugged into it. I didn't even get my wireless driver onto windows before I upgraded the BIOS. The solution must be from within BIOS/booting from USB, and preparation of that USB must be on another computer.
If you could explain this: + "bios".bin ......type.... efiflash "bios".bin \Nold . from your post in detailed steps or link me to where detailed steps are that would be great. I've made a bootable USB and copied ftp tools + renamed bios to bios.bin and tried booting from it to no avail. When you say type....efiflash and \Nold, I don't know what that means. Thank you for the response though!
I updated the BIOS on a GA-Z170N-WIFI (rev. 1.0) mobo (F7 ---> F20c), but with the new BIOS I experience serious performance degradation with tasks that utilize the integrated graphics.
1) I reported this issue on the esupport gigabyte site, how long does it take for them to reply? And when can we expect a stable, non-beta bios for the board - want to upgrade to Kaby, already have the CPU.
2) Just to be sure: fpt_DOS-Z170 can revert back to F7 BIOS with the GA-Z170N, is that correct?

Ok,download this Efiflash ,unrar and place in your bootable USB together with BIOS you want.
Rename BIOS to bios.bin, be sure that bootable USB is set first boot in BIOS.
Type by keyboard....efiflash bios.bin \Nold
or bellow is with AUTOEXEC.BAT (no need to type): Efiflash downgrade
Just start AUTOEXEC.BAT.

Don't know if you're the person to ask for this, but i don't know anyone else, lol
I'm on a GA X99 Designare EX. The last BIOS update was August last year.. and it's still in Beta, lol; last year.
So the request: Could you ask someone responsible for this, whenever they DO bother to update with a newer BIOS, to offer an option to disable LAN1 and/or LAN2 and/or Wireless?
This is not an option currently, they're all active, and it's something even the most basic mobos offer. Considering this is your flagship one.. well i was kinda disappointed to see even basic options missing.
If you could ask someone to (try?) include this in the next update, i'd really appreciate it. Thanks for reading :)
