No arguement there, the boot issue is wrong. Makes one wonder...I'd assume the X79 and C606 are pin-compatible...maybe they made a mistake with the chipset's wiring or so...I was merely venting about the problems that my UD5 has and prolly also the UD3/7...

It's all the UEFI BIOS. It's just poorly implemented. I submitted all of this to Gigabyte support as issues and I hope that stasio will pass on the information to Gigabyte as well. I'd love for this board to work properly, but right now it's kinda half-junk.

Ok, guys. I'm really in a hard place right now, I've searched the internet for a solution to my problem and nothings seems to pop-up. So that is why I'm asking here. So here's my problem:
I have a ga-z68ap-d3 (rev 2.0) MB with an Ivy B I5-3570K CPU and a msi nvidia TwinFrozr3 GTX660 GPU. Here's where the complicated part starts: At first I was using FD bios and I couldn't simply overclock my i5 because the multiplier was capped at 38, so I updated to the new uefi Ua5 bios which solved the problem with overclocking. But all this was back when I was using a nvidia gtx460. So when I changed to the gtx660 gpu the bios would not POST at all. No video signal comming in. I don't know why. I even tried the beta Ua7 bios, still nothing. I managed to downgrade to the old FD bios version and the GPU works fine, all is ok, but now I cannot overclock my cpu because the multiplier is capped. Does anyone know a workaround or what I should try to make things work? I reset CMOS before and after every bios upgrade and downgrade. Pleas help. I also wrote to Gigabyte, but they take years to answer.

Had the same issue with my G1 Sniper 2, among other issues (could'd boot my pendrive to restore original BIOS, had to restore from Windows).

Workaround I discovered to the graphics card issue:

Remove the graphics card, Plug your monitor to the onboard graphics, set the primary graphic device to the iGPU, and set the iGPU always Enabled.

Then save your settings, turn off the computer, put back your graphics card, plug your monitor back to your graphics card, turn on the computer and see if that helps.

By doing this (maybe) you can't see the post screen (you have to plug your monitor back to the onboard graphics), but by doing this I could boot Windows just fine and use the computer as usually (except the iGPU will always be enabled).

If you need to acess the UEFI again, just plug your monitor to the iGPU and do as you would normally do. No need to take the graphics card out again.

Concerning my D1 storport.sys BSOD issue when running OCCT, it is an extremely HARD problem. I have reverted to defaults on F13m and did a fully clean installation of Windows 7 x64 with only the most neccessary drivers on a separate HD, to no avail.

- occurs on Win7 x64 and Win8 x64
- RAID and AHCI mode
- iRSTe 3.2 or newer, 3.0 or standard RST drivers work fine!


I am even more inclined to believe now that the device ID/OptionROM change in F13n was to remedy this issue, be it a bug in the PCH as such or in it's implementation on Gigabyte's X79 boards. I have also found a thread on a different forum where a Rampage IV user is having a very similar issue, however in that case in connection with Prime95.

The reason for the change was because Intel is wanting the manufacturers to push the smart response technology to all platforms, and this feature is not supported by the RSTe. With that said, it looks like RSTe option ROM is coming back to the GA-X79S-UP5 (C606) chipset as a beta BIOS I am using now and it is possible to switch on demand between RSTe and IRST.

Thank you for your advice, it worked. A day after your advice came an email from gigabyte giving a similar advice. Now I have another problem. My ga-z68ap-d3 MB had problems with the onboard audio and lan chips so i sent it to be serviced; in the meantime I bought another MB, a gigabyte ga-h77-ds3h, which comes with the latest f7 bios and had the same issue with my GPU which I fixed following your advice. The problem that I face now, is that I cannot oveclock my CPU AT ALL, the multiplier doesn't go beyond 36, not even 38 (the turbo limit). Any ideas?

I just installed g1assassin2 F12k bios, and hell knows what happened, i dont even know where it came from, my raid rom went from enterprise to normal irst 11.6.0.71?? , now how the hell can that happen?, i couldnt even boot into windows because i have irst-e drivers, can someone explain, i read bios and it said def that it was g1assassin2 f12k. Just want to point out that whem i first tried on day of release, irst-e 3.5.1.1005 actually loaded, so again i dont understand why it wont work this time round.

Same problem, had to flash back to f12j.

With f12k, my system wouldn't boot to windows at all. It would BSOD loading windows in RAID or AHCI mode.
I have OS on SSD and a storage raid 0 array.

May i ask if your fan speed on cpu(pwm) is faster since after bios f12c? mines goes from 800rpm at 30degrees to 1200 rpm at 30degrees with any bios after f12c.

To be honest boe323 I haven't even noticed the fan speed. There are so many other issues with this board that if the fans are spinning and I can actually use the system then I count that as a win!

Well im booting fine with F12K - But also noticed the 11.6 xx orom now even though it was supposed to be 3.5 xx orom, For the record im using the 11.2 xx drivers too - running sweet tbh. Maybe this is something to do with Raid support and Trim for x79 coming into play ?

getting a double boot now and then from this when the pc is cold
all my settings remain saved tho
