you cannot flash back to the mainline bios from GA
so keep your backup bios as stock so you can flash over this if you ever want to

GA Fixes NVME drives on the 1x slots when C10 is enabled as the max state (Modern Standby)
without the fix the drives fail to enumarate in windows with C10 enabled

In the case of Z690 firmware it does the same but fixes the 4x slots
the 4x slot was already fine on Z390 mainline firmware

Hi. Maybe someone knows and can help.

I have Z390 Aorus Master with the latest official bios firmaware F11. If I put a WD SN850 ssd in any of the three m2 nvme slots the motherboard has, I get a black screen during startup. It does this 2 or three times and then it says boot failure detected. It lets me into bios and I can restore my settings and I can see the nvme there in bios. After I reboot, I get the bios screen and the computer starts normally. Next time I turn the computer on, the 3 black screens, boot failure detected and so on happens again.

Because I haven't figured out why this is, I bought PCIe riser cards. With the ssd installed on a riser, the system doesn't give me any errors and the ssds work normally.


My questions are the following:

1. Has anyone gotten a WD SN850 ssd to work from the motherboard nvme slot on a Z390 motherboard, and if so, how? Was it some bios setting or a beta firmware? As a side note, I used to have Samsung 970 Pro NVMEs and they worked just fine from the MB nvme slots.

2. Does the Z390 Aorus Master F12B GA firmware fix this nvme ssd issue?

3. Has anyone had any problems after upgrading to this version F12b of beta bios?

4. Have I understood correctly, I can flash back to an official bios version from an USB if the beta doesn't work for me? How big is the danger of bricking?


I know Z390 is a gen3 MB and WD SN850 is a gen4 ssd, but in general gen4 ssds should be backwards compatible.

The manual of your mb only lists a limitation with M.2 PCIe SSD in the "M2M"-Slot. When using the "M2M"-Slot for a M.2 PCIe SSD the SATA3 4 and 5 Slots must not be in use.
But this shouldn't be your Problem, cause your SSD isn't working in any of these 3 Slots. The other two Slots dont have this limitation.

Is the SSD empty or was it already in use? Maybe there is some sort of Bootloader in place and the SSd only needs to be formatted.

I have a B550 Aorus Pro AC and the latest bios is F15d are these bios versions with letters beta or final stable ? and is it recommended to install them on a workstation that is meant to work at least 10 hours per day ?

There's nothing much from Gigabyte to distinguish them but the BIOS with letters are generally described as beta - they introduce new features as described in the notes with probably less widespread testing than the releases without letters.

One clue is that the CPU support page rarely mentions the versions with letters.

They arent unstable - people blame BIOS for everything including shortcomings in their own skills - but are best avoided unless you need the new features like 5800x3D support

If a PC is being used professionally then maybe it ought to be a supported pre-built model

Yes, it's not a limitation problem. I've tried the SN850 in every slot, and every slot gives the same problems. I have two of them, and both have the problems in the native slots, but work perfectly fine in a riser. The same black screens and boot errors were in place before I had formatted the ssd, and after I had formatted and installed Windows to the ssd, it still has the problems when I put it in a native slot. And like I said, I had two nvme ssds (Samsung 970 Pro) before in the native slots and there were no problems. The problems started immediately with WD SN850. So it has to be some sort of compatibility issue.

I reflashed f36f using qflash in the bios and it allowed me to update both bios so IDK why it wouldn't allow it in the beginning unless it has to do with me using @bios in the app center which has always allowed it in the past when it hands off to qflash for the actual update.

Gigabyte App Center works for some and not others but it looks like the latest update for SIV 22.0808 uninstalls EasyTuneEngineService instead of updating it - which stops SIV etc working.

Its possible that uninstalling SIV from App Center first and then installing the new SIV from inside App Center might avoid EasyTuneEngineService uninstalling.

But the Clocks section of SIV is mostly zeros as CPU_clock.xml isnt being populated correctly so maybe the new SIV/EasyTuneEngineService isnt working properly so I'd suggest not updating to 22.0808 yet.

But if it has already gone it cant easily be fixed apart from re-installing App Center - these steps seem to get 22.0808 installed

Uninstall SIV and fast boot etc
Uninstall App Centre
Download and install App Centre 22.0310 from GB
Download and install Fast Boot from GB
Open App centre
Install SIV 22.0808 from inside App Center un-ticking the EasyTuneEngineService update and Norton
(Seems to install SIV 22.0808 and EasyTuneEngineService 22.0808 OK)
On next reboot update App Center

I'm going to try the re-install once again but with an earlier SIV 22.0630 downloaded from GB

Has anyone tested PBO with the new X470/X570 B450/550 AGESA 1.2.0.7 Bios betas? Is the voltage cap when setting PPT higher than stock still there? Were you able to get the same RAM OC/FCLK as before?

Changelog is basically the same:

Tried all 15Beta versions and only F14 allows external usb hdd to remain working. All F15 a-e versions to more or less a degree disconnects the usb external drive and make it unusable for me. Bad bad gigabyte to not solve a high cost high quality motherboard. i bought a second hand computer based on this high quality brand name and its been 12 months of frustration. Is there any final F15 bios available to try or am i stuck with forcing PCIE3 instead of 4?

Update 15/5/2023 I Have been been using 16C released version for the Gigabyte B550 Aorus master and at first seemed to work real well as no usb drop outs then after a few weeks problems have showed up again with usb devices disconnecting and failing to allow connection when copying something to the USB external drives. Only option was to derate AGAIN back to PCIE 3 instead of 4 and cancel the c-states option.

In other words Gigabyte still have a professional and expensive motherboard B550 Aorus Master on version 16C that still has the original problem and NOT been able to make this mother board work with original advertised and hardware features! This is a disgrace in my opinion, but because I bought the system as second hand there is no comeback i am stuck with essentially a major brand name dud.
Again the consumer is a guinea pig for manufacturers whatever their good standing and reputation.
