  • P35C-DS3R CPU Fan issue

    G'day,

My new spec builds on a P35C-DS3R rev1.1 F5 (latest BIOS).

CPU Fan (Arctic Cooling 7 PWM) would not start in auto mode (BIOS setting). Fan just pulsed briefly. Same happened when I connected the four pin Intel cooler. After hesitating I decided to have it run and found that
once a 30°C temp was reached the fan would run. I have changed the settings now to PWM control and same behaviour.

Question is this a normal behaviour have other DS3R owners seen it as well. Of course it is logical that the CPU Fan RPMs will increase with temperature, what strikes me is that up to 28°C the fan is @ 0 RPM.

    txs for feedback.

It's kind of stupid to reply to my own post but has someone else observed the same on a P35C-DS3R ?

My fan on my Sythe Ninja cooler doesnt run until the CPU reaches around 30C. The temps only go above 30C when under heavy load. During normal tasks the temp doesn go above 27C.

So yes, this is the norm.

      My specs:
      Antec P180 (Black)
      Aerocool Turbine 550w PSU
      Core2 E6320 (4Mb cache)
      Scythe Ninja cooler
      Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R
      2Gb Kingston valuRAM DDR2-667
      Asus Nvidia 7300GS 256Mb Graphics
      Samsung 250gb Sata-300
      Maxtor 300gb Sata-300

      Now overclocking at 2.3Ghz (27C idle - 47C load) - CPU undervolted to 1.3v

          Yes, I run F5 too.

To be honest I have always updated to the latest BIOS (I started with F1) and the fan not turning until 30C has always been there.

cheers mate, so the likelyhood to toast the processor is nil.

              txs,
              M

I was a little concerned with the fan issue at first. But having monitored the CPU core temps for a few days they rarely went over 35C and the fan did seem to kick in occasionally (albeit at around 400rpm).

I dont have any worries. As long as your fan kicks in when under heavy load then all is fine.

For peace of mind I'd load the CPU and watch the fan RPM to see if it kicks in as the temps rise above 30C.

              cheers

              Harry
