Hello janus I have a ep45-ud3p there are 3& 4pin fan headers what is the difference and I only have 3pin 120mm fans do I need to get a 4pin fan?

    • Re: Welcome to GIGABYTE Technical Support!

The 4th pin is for pwm. It is used to shut the fan off in standby, and control it in PWM. Both 3 pin or 4 pin fans will connect to 3 pin or 4 pin headers. A motherboard with 4 pins will have a controller for 4 pin fans but also will control a 3 pin fan. Your good to go. Desktop Boards - 3-Pin and 4-Pin Fan Connectors

tjciccia I would say that the boot devices are not set properly, or BIOS corrupt or misconfigured setting not set properly . What type of boot devices do you have? What type of hard drives? Did you format the hard drives? In CMOS setup are your IDE channels set to Auto detect? If you are installing Windows xp 32bit,or X86, You may want to do so with 2 GB of memory. After the install is complete, and Windows updates to sp3 you can install the other 2 GB. The memory will work but Windows will not list the full 4GB. You would need a 64bit operating system for that.

artdrivers thanks for such a quick reply.I was trying to install windows xp
(without sp2) and I understand that sp2 is required for install on newer mb,which I did not know, but found out in another thread.I took a chance and installed a hard drive with xp sp2 already installed on it and everything worked out fine. would of liked clean install but this is better than nothing. If you have any ideas how I could use my xp install disk and install sp2 latter it would be great.again thanks so much for your help.

                      • Re: Welcome to GIGABYTE Technical Support!

You will want a clean install. You need to partition the WD hard drive. Be sure you set the ide devices to auto in bios. You can hook up the WD hard drive to the motherbaord and power supply aloong with that old windows hard drive and partition it with WD Data Lifeguard tools 11.2 Then remove the old hard drive and install the new hard drive in it's place.

Before running Windows setup you may want to do so with 2 GB of memory. You do not need sp2 When windows setup is done you can go to windows update and install all the updates. Windows update will install sp3 and all the new security updates as well as Internet Explorer 7 or 8 Install the remaining memory after updates is complete.

For NON AHCI or RAID you should have your hard drive connected to port 0 on the yellow controller, your SATA DVD Drive (if you have one) in port 1 and you should have set in integrated peripherals page of the BIOS this >>>>

SATA RAID/AHCI Mode (Intel ICH10R Southbridge) >>>>>>>>> Disabled

SATA Port0-3 Native Mode >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Enabled << Must be enabled for SATA CD/DVD Functions

This is for Anything you have on the purple ports extra or any IDE Drives
Onboard SATA/IDE Device (GIGABYTE SATA2 Chip) >>>>>>>>>> Enabled

Onboard SATA/IDE Ctrl Mode (GIGABYTE SATA2 Chip) >>>>>>> IDE

                        • Mobo voltage settings for PC8500 Corsair memory

                          Hi,

I have a GA-EP35-DS3L Mobo with 2 2GB sticks of Corsair XMS2 PC8500 memory installed. The memory was running as PC6400, 800 Mhz because I had not changed the BIOS settings.

I have set the timing per Corsair in the BIOS for my memory to run at 1066 speed. I can't seem to change the memory voltage to 2.1 as Corsair suggests.

In my BIOS M.I.T screen I changed the DDR2 Overvoltage to .3 because SiSoft showed the memory voltage at 1.8
I thought setting this DDR2 overvoltage to .3 would raise the voltage to 2.1, but Sisoft still shows the memory voltage as 1.8. Sisoft lists this value as Memory DC Line 1.80V

Can you tell me if there is another voltage setting that I should change? Is there a different utility that I can use to verify the voltage settings on the memory, CPU, etc.?

                          Thanks for your help.

techaddict I use the bios to check memory voltages. in PC Health Status

                            ******** System Voltage Optimized ********
                            System Voltage Control
Determines whether to manually set the system voltages. Auto lets BIOS automatically set the
system voltages as required. Manual allows all voltage control items below to be configurable.
                            (Default: Manual)
                            DDR2 OverVoltage Control
Allows you to set memory voltage.
Normal Supplies the memory voltage as required. (Default)
                            +0.1V ~ +0.7V Increases memory voltage by 0.1V to 0.7V at 0.1V increment.
Note: Increasing memory voltage may result in damage to the memory.
Save settings when you exit bios.

I can put that in the last x16 slot ( configure as x8 ) right ? or is there another driver aside from realtek ( of there are any 3rd party driver that works with vista 64 please ) that can improve the sound quality of this board ( well to save some cost on my part ).
