Please excuse my noobness I've never used raid before and I may be way off with my understanding of the mb to start with. As I understand it this board has 8 serial ata ports. 4 on the intel controller, 2@sata2 and 2@sata3. 4 on the asmedia controller that are all sata3. Can you have 2 separate raid config on this board?
2x128gb ssd in one raid, running os and some games on the intel pch ?
Another ssd as cache for a 1tb hdd on the AS media controller?

    Is this a possible scenario?

no you can only have one controller running raid, you should have 2 intel sata3 2 asmedia and four intel sata2???

you can have a raid array on the intel sata2 and have your operating system on an ssd on the intel sata3 and have another 60gb ssd on intel sata3 caching the raid array, aslong as the os ssd isnt part of the array it will work fine

Thanks for the quick reply. LOL yeah i thought i may be grasping at straws with 2 raids

I thought the ssd caching was capped at 60gb as well but this guy say "even 120gb" at around the 22.20-22.40 mark ROG Maximus V Formula Motherboard+ThunderFX audio bundle Hands-On Overview - YouTube Does he mean you can use a 120gb for caching but olny get to use half of it?

yeah, max space for caching is 60gb,a cheap 60gb drive would work fine, then you can cache your raid array to speed things further

Dam. I thought I was getting to understand this but now I'm confused again.. Isn't caching a 60gbssd with a hdd raid? or is that what you mean buy "then you can cache your raid array to speed things further"
If you use a larger drive than 60gb, what happens with the rest of the drive?

i dont know,i think you can use it if you just make a 60gb partition

i mean if your hdd's are in raid0 you can add in a 60gb ssd and cache the raid 0 drives, then you'll get raid 0 speed of the hdd's and ssd speed of the 60gb caching drive

all caching is is the most regularly used data gets written to the caching drive and used from that, this is what gives you ssd speeds without the space limits
