  • Thinking about buying ASRock? Think again!

Three ASRock motherboards = three dead systems.

    System 1:
    ASRock Fatal1ty H170 Pro4/D3
    - DoA. Unit refused to boot from the start
    - No BIOS LED (shows which BIOS is operational)
    - No CPU Fan operation etc.

    System 2:
    ASRock Fatal1ty H170 Pro4/D3
    - Semi-DoA. Unit never managed to boot successfully.
    - CPU Fan operational
    - BIOS LED operational
    - No video signal present from onboard video

    System 3:
    AsRock Fatal1ty H170 Performance/Hyper
    - System booted successfully
    - Recognised SSD 5000GB drive
    - Failed to communicate correctly with 2 x Western Digital Caviar Blue 2.0TB drives
    - Onboard graphics operational
    - Windows 7 64-bit Professional loaded successfully
    - Unable to access 2.0TB HDDs due to m/board issues. Case logged with ASRock, no response.
    - After running the computer for several days an nVidia GTX-770 Graphics card was added. At this point the system ceased to function. No BIOS lights, no CPU Fan, etc. HDDs and case fans spin up but that is all. The graphics card was from a working system and has been returned to that system where it again works correctly.

The AsRock Fatal1ty H170 Performance/Hyper is to be returned for credit with the supplier.

The experiences with the boards from this manufacturer mean that I will not waste my time or money on their products again.

The simple to the solution to the question of which ASRock m/board to buy turned out to be simple one to answer.

    The Fatal1ty H170 Performance/Hyper board was replaced with a Gigabyte H170-D3HP.

This new unit worked perfectly from the outset.

The moral of the story appears to be: Buy a reputable brand motherboard.
