  • Overclocking guide for ASRock motherboards?

    Any guides out there that detail how to OC with ASRock motherboards in particular? I have a 4790k that I would love to get to 4.6. Anyone have a good guide specific to us ASRock users?

    A web search using: asrock z97 overclock guide tutorial will provide useful links

    Major web site reviews for your motherboard will usually include the settings which were stable with their setup.

    Naturally you will need to find the optimal settings for your hardware setup and perform stress tests.

      Any PC hardware platform like Haswell processors and chipsets are all the same in the way they over clock. The only difference between board manufactures is the name of some of the options, and the number of options available in the BIOS.

      Any Haswell guide will be useful to you, as Proj Jim said.

      You can try applying one or more of the automatic OC settings in the BIOS, and then study what was changed.

      A simple way to OC your system is to set the CPU voltage settings to Auto, and then set the CPU multiplier to the desired level, in your case 46. Then see if the PC will boot with those settings.

      If it does, use a hardware monitoring program to check the VCore/VID reading when at 4.6GHz. Then you try to reduce the VCore as low as possible, by using a negative offset voltage.

      The goal is the highest or best practical OC at the lowest VCore and temperatures possible. That is true for over clocking any CPU and board.
