strange issue

ok I have a firewire external hard drive I have installed windows vista ultimate 64 and yet widows says it can't start the drive, was wondering if there was some kind of update for the firewire port on my asrock a75 pro4 or not. I have tried what the windows site said to do and it still won't start. yet it would work on my old system

any help would be somthing
