  • Asrock Z68 Fatality Gen 3 & Intel 3770K = No Overclocking

    Hi folks,

Hoping someone can provide some advice. I've recently added an Intel 3770k to my Asrock Z68 Fatality Gen 3 after upgrading from a 2600k. I'm running the beta L2.04 bios and was hoping to do some overclocking after having my 2600k @ 5Ghz for the past year. I know it's unrealistic to expect that from the 3770k but what I wasn't expecting was that I would be unable to overclock at all.

When I go into the bios any multiplier options that were available for the 2600k are now completely missing for the 3770k.

Can anyone shed some light on this?

    Thanks.

I believe that the bios support at this time is just initial support for the CPU's. I think you have to wait for another bios update that will support overclocking of the cpu. I believe this goes for other Z68 motherboards other then ASrock.

I'm a little disapointed we weren't informed that our motherboards were beta for upcoming new 22nm CPUs.

As far as I recall, "ready for next gen 22nm processors", was part of the advertising.

My issues are with ram speeds and XMP, didn't even consider OC'ing with how unstable it's been.

Thanks for the reply. Looking at other reported problems of Z68 boards and Ivybridge I'm not holding out much hope. Might have to ditch the board and go for a Z77. What a pain.

Totally agree with the advertising comment. I also think there should be a note put into the beta section telling people what to expect from the bios and the lack of overclocking potential. I wouldn't have bought the 3770k if I had known about this in advance and stuck with my 2600k instead.

Luckily my G.Skill 2133mhz ram is working fine with this L-2.04 bios so far so I can at least game on my system for now.

Z68 boards do and will support the new Ivy bridge cpus with a bios update. Bios updates will be coming out shortly as the CPU just hit retail not to long ago. As you can see the latest beta bios available has added support for the new cpus but just that just support. Once the bios engineers get some more time they will push out a bios that will allow overclocking the cpu on Z68. Z77 as "Full" IB support, but soon so will Z68.

I've moved on to an Asus P8Z77-V Pro and loving it. My 3770K is overclocked to 4.7Ghz on 1.28v so far and performing great.

Here is my rig at the moment when I had it OC'd to 4.6Ghz.

                Asus support is the best,
I hope that solves the problems Asrock, otherwise this is the last product I'll buy this brand

I know one user with Fatal1ty P67 Performance who is using beta UEFI and he swaped for an Ivy Bridge 3570K CPU. He has no problems with OC.

                    Another magic/lucky user?
