Damn nice score! These Pentium D systems are nasty especially when used with an X1900. Super sweet!

          Re: 3DMark06 scores

Im looking at getting a liquid cooling system for it as it produces an unbelievable amount of heat. I have a Thermaltake Kandalf Silver Aluminum case. Any ideas on a good cooling system for that case? Best to stick with Thermaltake's own systems or what?

Same size as the Shark, isn't it? I had a Swiftech water cooler installed in the Shark.

I cheated and got an old Aopen server case that is 24" tall. I fit my entire water loop in and almost out of sight. I bet you could fit Swiftech parts in there as well.

with my system, at 1024x768 (had to switch from 1280x1024), my 7900gt (540mhz core and 1.69ghz mem) my opty 146 at 2.82, and my 1gig corsair xms kit got a 48xx score...and all of that cost me about 1200 bucks, if i didnt get watercooling or the expensive shipping, probably about 900 bucks...how much did he pay for his dual core extreme edition and x1900??? about two or three times as much> and it is only _ a little bit better. oh wait, check this out, i JUST ran 3dmark06 again and got this...no lies!!!<that much="" better...notta="" lotta="" not="" too="" bad="" eh=""></that>

i figured it out...duh, it was me

You know what? I dont really care how much I paid for it. You can hack up my system all you want that I paid 2-3 times more than you. Big deal. I built the computer I wanted and that's that. If you pulled those scores, that is impressive. I really don't put much stock into benchmarking anyways. I feel as long as I can play any game or run any graphic program perfect with no choppy graphics, I am fine with that. Btw, what were your framerates like in the stuff it was benchmarking with? I am curious.

BTW, its not the dual core extreme version. That is still just the regular pentium D. Why dont you tell me the setup you have? That way I can see exactly how much it would cost to build your system.

You are supposed to leave it on 1280X1024 to compare it with all the other people that leave it there. Running it @ 1024X768 is easy for a 6800GT, never mind a 7900GT. Even at that lower resolution that is still not an overly impressive score impressive score. I get 4880 with my X1800XT on stock clocks and my CPU around 2.9GHz with 1280X1024.

Besides, 3D Mark 06 is not the best benchmark to use for comparisons. It easily throws out bogus scores and the results are never consistant. Use 3D Mark 05. That way you cannot change the defaults to make your scores look better.

Actually the first post says to use 1024x768.

No synthetic benchmark is the best to use for comparison. It just gives you a number that makes you feel fuzzy about your computer's performance.
