  • Lucid Logix Virtu MVP: does it really help with power saving?

Has anyone "benchmarked" the power saving features of Virtu MVP? I am extremely skeptical on this program, it does increase FPS and benchmark scores in some games, but I don't think the games are more fluid at all, despite the higher FPS numbers.

Anyway, what I'm mostly interested in are the power saving features. Right now I have it installed, hyperformance and all that crap is turned off, and I have the monitor cable connected to the integrated GPU (in my case, HD4000), and I did a couple of tests for GPU usage. Basically, with this setup, everything runs on the iGPU but it switches to the Nvidia when I run a game or something that needs it (I need to manually add programs that aren't in the list or they will run on the iGPU, for example, the PS2 emulator PCSX2). Using GPUz I noticed that the Nvidia stays at 0% usage all the time unless I run a game, at that point Virtu uses the Nvidia and obvioulsy, GPU usage rises. If I connect the cable to the nVidia and disable virtu, it always hovers around 10% usage, if I use Windows media center or watch a video, it can go even higher.

From this little test, I can assume that some power is saved if I don't run any game, but I don't have the instruments to measure system wide power consumption. Has anyone tested it? If there is no power saving at all, I might as well uninstall it and forget about it.

Well i have the Zalman ZM-MFC2 that shows the pc total watts pulled in real time dont know how accurate is it though.Im using ASRock Z77 Fatal1ty Performance-Intel 3570k(HD4000)-Asus 7850CUII

    Unigine Heaven Benchmark 4.0

HDMI connected to the onboard graphic card (Lucid MVP ON)
    FPS: 30.4
    Score:767
    Min FPS: 9.5
    Max FPS: 51.9
    Max Watts: 218
    Idle Watts: 116

HDMI connected to Asus graphic card (Lucid MVP ON)

    Score: 775
    Min FPS: 7.6

Thanks man. Seems like it does indeed save some power in idle (when the onboard card is used). That's like a 50W save when in idle, not bad at all.

My Zalman ZM-MFC2 reports A.C. power draw (watts) that is within ~5% of the wattage reported by my CyberPower CP1500PFCLCD UPS at idle.
My older APC BE750G UPS software reported similar A.C. power draw at idle.

          You welcome.

As you can see my score is way better with HDMI connected to the onboard its also a way to take full advantage hardware that you would never use and also powersave. In my opinion MVP is the future for a pc with 1 discrete graphic card they just need to start support more applications.

That you can discover the rating is method superior with HDMI connected to your on the machine its also a method to acquire full benefit hardware that you would not utilize and also powersave. In my opinion MVP is the foreseeable future for a personal computer with 1 individually distinct image greeting card they will just need to begin service much more software.
