  • FTP server app, win7 compatible

    Hey all

Looking for suggestions on FTP server apps, preferable free but low cost (25-45usd) would be acceptable as well, but of course I'd prefer free.

What i need is a FTP server where i got user and groups and can assign rights to both parts individually. I also need virtual directory and home directory support.

Currently I'm using a Serv-U license, but its both old (my version, not upgrade-able anymore) and slow, and has way to much that I don't need. Also I'm constantly having right issues, special when it comes to upload privileges in virtual folders.

It's only going to be used for home use, but will run 24/7. I don't need to have remote access via html or similar, It will be controlled either direct or via virtual/remote-desktop.

I know there are tons of different free and low-cost out there, but finding a decent one between them is a big hassle. So if anyone here has any experience with any of them, I'm open for any suggestion.

    Thanks in advance.
My advice - never visit a short-url, no matter who gives it to you. You can't trust any source at any time when you don't know your target

Thought I'll reply back on this one of my own, just in case - has had quite a few views (and can't all be crawlers and bots)

I've tested many free and commercial FTP servers since I posted this thread and I have almost ended up where I started.
FileZilla FTP Server. It's easy to configure, easy to use, small and free. It does lack a few features or settings, but a semi-skilled programmer could easily add those himself as the source code is available.

Best of all, a reinstall in the same folder (after a windows re-install) and all your settings are kept in comparison to most other. This is a nice little bonus when you trash your win-installation :D
