  • hard drive hibernation...

I was just wondering if it was possible to hibernate certain drives to prolong their life. Im probably going to get multiple large drives soon to store data and I really dont like cds because curruption is a real possiblilty.

So what im asking is would it be possible to turn off the hard drive while windows is still running and whenever you would want to use the drive you could turn it on. If there is some way to do this then I would like to know. :geek:

You could use hot swap removable drive trays to turn off power to unused drives. This is the only solution that I can think of. One thing to remember is that much of the wear and tear on hard drives comes from starting them up. I have always found cdrs to be pretty reliable with reasonable care, but I have had trouble with corruption of cd/rws.
