  • Proper way to install fresh OS on SSD?

Hi my question is I am bought a new Samsung 850 EVO SSD now I want to do a clean install of windows 7. I would like to know what steps to take to get this done.
If I read Samsung support facts right I need to update the SSD and Samsung says just use Magellan when installing SSD but Its a new drive?
1..So should I Install windows 7 new/fresh and then Magellan then update/flash the ssd?
    "or"
2.. install Magellan on the old HDD spin drive and install Magellan and update the SSD using the usb connection?
Either way using Magellan to update and set up the new SSD I understand there are 3 options to set up the drive.
Max Performance / Max Capacity / Max Reliability.....(I will use max performance)
can I do that after a fresh install of windows 7 or should that be done via usb before installing the OS?
    Thanks!

Re: Proper way to install fresh OS on SSD?

Magellan software has nothing to do with Samsung ssd's.
Samsung ssd's use their Magician software for updating ssd firmware.
You can download the Magician software and installation guide at Samsung SSD 850 EVO Specifications | Samsung SSD near the bottom of the page.

To avoid MBR errors when installing win7 never have any other hard drives or ssd's connected to your system.

You asked the same question in the SSD and Samsung Magellan software clean install windwos 7 - SSD - Storage thread at Tom's Hardware. The reply by Spooky2th is correct where you first install your ssd as an additional drive so that you can run the Magician software to update the EVO's firmware before you install win7 on your ssd. When you update the firmware for any ssd there is a chance that some or all of the existing data on the ssd might be corrupted.

A web search using: install win7 on ssd provides links to several excellent tutorials.

Good luck, let us know how you make out.
