    There is virtually no speed difference between IDE and SATA DVD but for tidyness in the case if you can find a DVD SATA drive, buy that if it's not much more expensive.

      There is absolutely no speed difference, but SATA is a smaller, easier-to-use interface (hence the tidiness comment above); supports hotswap capabilities; and SATA ports are becoming more common while most motherboard have reduced IDE ports to two. IDE controllers will likely be phased out of motherboard entirely before 2009.
