DVD400i problem... only reads at 2-3x and burns at 2x

OK just installed this burner (DVD400i) i've burned like 10 DVD's so far they burn fine but they burn at 2x

i've tried downloading the firmware from hp's site but none of it works or will even install..

is there some other software or drivers i can get somwhere else?
