    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ok here's my problem i recently upgraded my 1.9 p4 to a 3.06 ht p4 and when i booted the pc windows said it detected new hardware and installed drivers, now i started getting the "BSOD"

    WORKER_THREAD_RETURNED_AT_BAD_IRQL

I have looked the error message up and i think it refures to a bad driver.

So rebooted the pc in last known good configuration and it has removed the drivers for hyper threading i think, well i know its still enabled in the bios but not according to windows but the pc runs fine no "BSOD" anymore
So i went into the bios again and dissabled it then enabled it again and rebooted and same thing happens windows installes something and then starts to crash again whats windows instaling and why does it cause my pc to "BSOD" all the time??? It even does it when i disable ht in the bios so im sure it is what windows installes that is causing the problem please help!!!
    My specs are...
    Emermax v770 case
    460w Enermax psu
    P4 3.06 @ 3.44
    Crutial ddr400 2 x 512mb in dual channel
    GA8SQ800 ultra
ATI Radeon 9800pro 256mb ddr II
    2 x sata150 maxtor 160gb in raid 0

Thats quite odd. I dunno if this is the case, but since its wa different it may require a reinstall, but IMO that shouldn't be the case because I can switch HT on and off no problem.
Do you have the latest mobo chipset drivers? If not, download and install them. Hell, even if you have an older version of the drivers reinstall them and see what happens

I'm about out of ideas here. You may just want to backup what you want to save and reinstall XP.

Just got this reply from another forum what do you think

The HAL (Hardware Abstraction Layer) is a set of drivers, upon which the Windows NT kernel is based. If the installed HAL is incorrect, you may have a problem ranging from certain settings not working (such as APM) to Windows not starting at all. Note that the concept of a HAL doesn't apply to Windows 95, 98, and Me.
To see which HAL is currently installed, open Device Manager, and expand the Computer branch. The entry that appears in this branch corresponds to the currently installed HAL.

Although Windows will allow you to specify a new HAL here by double-clicking, selecting the Driver tab, and clicking Update Driver, DON'T DO IT. Instead, to install a new HAL, you need to reinstall Windows:

1)Boot off your Windows 2000 or XP CD.
2)When asked if you want to install or repair your current installation, choose Install.
3)Then, follow the steps to upgrade Windows (even though you're not technically upgrading, you are updating your HAL).

                    That should do it!

Install will still format your HD. Repair won't. Also, I was thinking, do you have ACPI enabled in the Bios, because I believe it needs to be for HT to work properly

Yes ACPI is enabled in the Bios
Do you think a repair of window with ht enabled might work ? And is HYPER THREADING realy worth it?

                            Hi there,

I've got the same problem. BSOD - WORKER_THREAD_RETURNED_AT_BAD_IRQL, with hyper-threading enabled in bios.

                            Did repair solve it?

                            Thanks!
