  • CPU Temp sensor issue?

Not sure if this belongs here on in Processors, so move if needed...

Just got my new system up and running a few days ago
    Gigabyte GA-990FX-UD3 motherboard
    AMD FX-4100 CPU

Using my Windows7 CPU gadget, along with CPU-Z, HWMonitor, and PCWizard, they're all showing my CPU temps at 6°C, when my room temp is about 21°C...

How do I have a CPU that much colder then room temp on air-cooling?

Is there a sensor issue somewhere? It looks like I have the latest BIOS (Award F5), is it a CPU problem, Mobo problem, something else entirely, or no problem?

    Thanks!

if its a new cpu architecture, then chances are its a software compatibility issue, wait for newer software to come out that will be able to read the cpu sensors more accurately, usually it takes a while for cpu-z hwmonitor ect to catch up,if its still giving low readings then it could be a stuck cpu sensor but thats pretty rare on new cpu's

Hopefully that's all it is, was wondering about that. I wasn't sure anymore if the sensor was in the CPU or the mobo, since I haven't built a system in probably 4 years... too many other projects...

Also had me wondering because the CPUID programs all showed the same reading as my Win7 sidebar gadget, by a different author/company.
Or do you mean it's a matter of the sensor reading not being interpreted correctly?

        Re: CPU Temp sensor issue?

It might be a problem with the current bios version.
Are you using the most recent bios version for your motherboard?
If your motherboard is GA-990FXA-UD3 (rev. 1.2), the original bios is FA, FB is newer and Fd is an available beta bios.
        GIGABYTE - Motherboard - Socket AM3+ - GA-990FXA-UD3 (rev. 1.2)
rev 1.0 and 1.1 use different bios versions.
        GA-990XA-UD3 (rev. 1.0) uses a different bios.

Posting a screen shot using CPU-Z "Motherboard" tab will show which bios version you are using.

Mine is Rev. 1.1 and the Mainboard tab in CPU-Z just shows version F5 which according to the gigabyte website is the latest stable release, there is a F6 beta out, but I tend to stay away from those.

            Re: CPU Temp sensor issue?

maybe stupid question, does your BIOS have a hardware monitor page? If so, did you check the temp there? if that looks "normal" you know its a software issue from the windows tools

not sure if all have such pages, all my systems do

              Re: CPU Temp sensor issue?

Yeah, checked the BIOS page right before I left for work, seems to be correct there. Just found it odd multiple programs by different authors read it incorrectly, but the same as each other... maybe the next versions of each will address that...

                Re: CPU Temp sensor issue?

then its a software issue and nothing to worry about, as wazza already said. Unfortunaly it's quite common these days, special with the lower to mid range of new hardware. Top of the line gets support added quick but they often forget about the smaller ones.
My A6-3500 htnas system also claims there is a sensor reading 75-100 degrees celcius, but that sensor doesn't even exist on the board
