  • I need help with an intel motherboard

I don't know a lot about intel motherboards. I need a cpu that will fit that is at least 2.6ghz. What do you recommend? It has to be an intel. I built a computer for a guy and his sign machine and it is not compatible with an amd chip. Help is needed fast.

Intel has what... twenty different sockets? Granted, you're probably looking at either socket 478 or socket 775. Want to specify?

Edit: just a few minutes too late....

ABIT AG8-V Socket T (LGA 775) Intel 915P ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail is what I went with along with the Intel Pentium 4 630 Prescott 800MHz FSB 2MB L2 Cache LGA 775 EM64T Processor - RetailBut now here is another question. This is a brand new machine that I built and I found out just now that the amd is not compatible with the machine I am trying to run. I now have to switch out the cpu and mobod. Everything else will be fine. Will I have to unistall the os and reinstall or can I just hook it all up and see what happens. What would you do? What do I really need to do?

Re: I need help with an intel motherboard

You will need to reinstall. It's sometimes possible to get away without it on systems using the same chipset, and these (obviously) aren't.

Do you recommend hypterthreading or not. I disabled it on my other machine but just want to know your thoughts.

              Why would you disable hyperthreading?

Re: I need help with an intel motherboard

Hyperthreading can provide an ever-so-slight performance decrease in a very small amount of applications. However, I would always recommend leaving it on. It can provide a huge bonus in certain applications.
