Flash 4X to 8X

could be the dumbest question ever...but can you flash a 4X board (ASUS A7V333) to handle a 8X vid card?

you cant flash agp 8x onto a chipset as its a hardware feature however most agp 4x motherboards will support agp 8x cards but run them at 4x.
the performance increase between 4x and 8x isnt much anyway, roughly 2 - 5%

yea no need to too.....yea nmice to say you have but deifnately not needed.....and the a7v333 will work fine with your 8x card....just like ^^^ said, itll run at 4x

if i'm going to be upgrading to a NV40 or R420...would a mobo upgrade to 8X make sense?

dont upgrade your motherboard just to get agp 8x, if there is extra features that you want then an upgrade might make sense
if you do decide to upgrade then either get an nforce 2 ultra motherboard or upgrade the entire computer and get an athlon 64 (if you can afford it)

Yeah 8x AGP will only really be effective on the new 64bit systems. So upgradeing to 8x agp is just a waste of time.
