  • 1gig pc2100 or 512mb of pc 2700?

i currently have a gig of pc2100 and am planning on selling it so that i can upgrade to faster RAM and the fastest my mobo can handle is i believe pc2700.

is there really a big performance increase between the two types of RAM or no?

because im going to buy only a stick of 512 for now and another stick later.

or should i just stick with the current RAM?

Just because your mobo states that it can only handle dd333(ddr2700) doesn't mean that you can not support any higher clock ram. Try to find 512 of ddr400.

That depends on what mobo you have. It will work, but will it run at what you expected it at.

AS far as preformance it depends on what you use your PC for.
If you just surf the web or chat rooms youll see no difference even from 512 to 1gig, probably not see difference
I would stick to what your board supports unless you plan to up grade it your board would probably run with say pc 3200 ddr but speed would only be what speed is supported buy your MOBO

I'd save my money if your board dont support pc3200 400fsb your wasting your money other factors on your board will limit your speed anyway.
use that money for ram to buy new board that supports 400fsb
you want speed , make sure your new board supports SATA HDD,and do raid set up

new board $80.00 to $125.00 and up, could use your old ram till can buy the good stuff

The only reason to get PC3200, unless on a P4c/AMD64 system, is to overclock, so unless your overclocking, I'd just stick with your gig of PC2100. You'll only notice better performance with the faster RAM if your CPU's FSB matches it.
