  • Sharing ADSL connection

Hello I recently got ADSL 256Kbps connection and I have a small home network with 2 computers connected by a hub switch (Encore ENH908-NWY), and I want to share the ADSL connection in the network but when I do it I can’t use the connection in both computers. In one pc I have WinXP pro and in the pc that I have the ADSL I’m using windows ME and I have Norton Internet security in both computers.

Either get ya self an internet gateway appliance or add a second nic and ICS to the main PC and connect it directly to the internet and share it to the second PC usin' the 2nd nic. ;)

If I have windows XP in both computers can I share the same connection using only the windows option to share my Internet connection?
When I tried to share in the network the connection stopped working, maybe there is something that has to be configured because with my old dial up connection I could share the connection without problems. Could it be an incompatibility issue between XP and ME?

There's a big difference between dailup and broadband. ;)

This is your setup now (if I understand ya right)

but that won't work as one PC must get the internet first and then share it.

Either of these two setups is what ya need. ;)

In the last pic a switch/hub can be inserted between the two PC's shown. The last would be easier for you to implement and that is how my network is setup also. :devil win

I’m using the second setup option you gave me with the hub between the 2 pcs but when I enable connection share the connection wont work even in the pc receiving the connection. I have to use a software to connect
Its winpoet could it be the reason for the connection to stop when it’s shared to force me to “buy” another ADSL connection.
Thanks allot for the help Wiggo
