  • Help on Wireless Networking

    Hi

Soon I will be buying the following:

    1. Belkin F5D6000 PCI Network Adapter (for use with Belkin F5D6020 Wireless PC Card)

    2. Belkin F5D6020 (Two Units)

The PCI network adapter + One Wireless PC card will go into my Desktop (P-200Mhz with MMX)

The second Wireless PC card will go into my Laptop (Toshiba S-Pro Pentium III 650Mhz)

I believe I won't be needing any Wireless Access Point, as I intend to use the "Ad hoc" mode.

My questions regarding the Adhoc mode are:

    1. Will I be able to share a Dial-Up Internet Connection (internal modem) in Ad hoc mode?

    2. Will I be able to share Drives and Printer in Ad hoc mode?

    3. Will I be able to play games using ad hoc mode?

Another issue I want to know about is...

I have an option to buy Belkin F5D6000 (PCI network adapter) + F5D6020 (Wireless PC card). Together they will form a single UNIT to work in a desktop PC.

The second option is to go for a single Belkin F5D6001. This is a stand-alone wirless network PCI card.

    What option to choose?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance

Yes to all 3 questions. With ad-hoc mode just imagine it as if both computers are connected with cross over cable. Just setup one as the server hosting the Internet (under Windows XP just allow Internet Connection Sharing) and other will pick it up as usual.

Sharing drivers and printers is exactly the same as a wired network.
