  • FTP Server question Part II

I've got my FTP server setup now on my winxp machine, with caesar FTP. I have the port set to 20000. Using ws_ftp, I can connect to the ftp server on this port. However, from the command line in windows, and redhat linux 7.2, I'm unable to connect specifying the port with the command: "ftp x.x.x.x:20000". It tells me the host is unknown. (x.x.x.x being my IP). Yet when I set it back to port 21, I can connect by just typing ftp x.x.x.x without specifying the port. Why can't I specify the port in this form?: ftp x.x.x.x:20000 ?

    Thanks ahead.

Try "ftp x.x.x.x 20000". Of course without the quotes and the colon you had in there. It should be alright.

otherwise check the ftp program with --help or /? and check what triggers you can possibly use to specify the port...
