  • ISP has changed its high speed cable plans?

My current plan is: 35 Mbps download, 3 Mbps upload. $49 per month.

I'm not forced to switch but I can and save $5 a month to: 30 Mbps download, 5 Mbps upload.

The main usage in our house is: 2 desktop computers which are connected with cat6 (one is a gaming rig, the other a HTPC), an iPad that I surf or stream music with and a VOIP phone.

Is it worth it to save a few dollars or stay with my current plan.

Re: ISP has changed its high speed cable plans?

For each plan, what are the minimum guaranteed speeds with each plan?
Does the maximum available bandwidth change with the time of day in your neighborhood?
Call me a cynic, but I hate store ads that say up to 70% off, where they have a $1 item on sale for 70% off and all the other sale items have a much lower discount.

What is the maximum download and upload bandwidth that you sometimes need when all of your hardware is used at the same time?
Is there any software that can track and log the total delivered bandwidth for short time periods (e.g. every 5 minutes) from your home network router?

Are there any limits on how much data can be uploaded or downloaded each month?

Re: ISP has changed its high speed cable plans?

I've found that speeds don't change during the day with my current plan, so hopefully that would be the same with the new. I'm the only tech junky in the house so most of the time only one piece of hardware is used at a time, one exception would be someone answering the Ooma VOIP phone.

I've never tested the maximum bandwidth with everything on at the same time but this shouldn't be an issue with me. I would think the 66% increase in upload would help my situation.

The 200gb per month limit has not changed between the 2 plans.

Re: ISP has changed its high speed cable plans?

It sounds like a good deal to go with the lower priced plan and save $5 per month.

I'm pretty sure that with residential internet service, the available bandwidth fluctuates throughout the day, depending on the overall usage of everyone that is sharing the line back to the local ISP.
