  • Need Advice on Network Hardware + Setting Up a small Office Network

Hi everyone, I'm having a few little issues I would like someone with more experence to help me with. Basically I have got a 2Wire 2701HGV-W, 4 port + wireless Modem Router?. And I have 7 Computers to be connected. Ok So I had a 5 Port Hub connected to one of the network ports on the 2wire and then filled the remaining 3 connections on the 2 wire followed by 4 ports the remaining 4 on the hub. Now this seemed to work pretty well, straight out of the box. But I dont know if it had anything to do with anything but Im using a vista machine to act as a Server for Quickbooks and the only 2 XP machines in the office sometimes had trouble connecting to Computer. But only that computer and not any other vista machine, Tried all the password things and what not. Anyway Hub is fried. I want a better option.. Do I need a Router, Hub or switch? I need to keep the 2wire somewere in the loop to provide internet to the network but I was wondering if there is a better way. Or WHat would happen if I say bought an 8 port router and connected it to the 2wire ? and then just filled the 8 port router with the rest of the computers. I just dont know how all the different options will work.
