MOBO- ASUS M5A97 R2.0
CPU - AMD FX-8150
RAM - Corsair Vengeance 16GB DDR3 1866MHz Kit 4x4GB Red
GPU - BFG Tech GeForce 9600 GT OC 512MB PCIe 2.0 x16
HD1 - WD Blue WD5000AAKX 500GB
HD2 - WD Green WDBAAY0020HNC 2TB
OPT1- Samsung SH-222BB/BEBE 22X DVDRW SATA
SND - Sound Blaster Xi-Fi Platinum PCIe
PSU - CoolerMaster eXtreme Power Plus 600W RP-600-PCAR
System boots.
Issue #1 - Ram reads 1333mhz, attempts to change speed to 1866mhz results in instant system shutdown, no blue screen, just powered down.
Issue #2 - System wil boot into windows and perform basic tasks. Internet browsing/streaming. Installation of driver files from cd/dvd drive. Full format of a 2TB drive. But, at some point, without what I can see as a specific user inputed cause I get a instant system shutdown, no error, no bluescreen, just powered down.
Computer will not restart or power up after either of those system crashes without cycling of the PSU on/off switch or physical wall plug disconnect/reconnect.
My motherboard documentation stated that despite having a 8-Pin CPU plug on the mobo, that I could connect either a 4-Pin or 8-Pin 12V Cable. Since this PSU only has a 4-Pin that is what I am running on.
I believe the issue to be the power supply. It appears to run stable under normal operating conditions when power is supplied by a Coolermaster TR2 RX 650W with the proper 8-Pin cable (Not put under any overclocked load or heavy gaming graphics). If I could get some confirmation based on your inspection of the sytem hardware I'd appreciate it.
I would also like a recommendation for features and wattage requirements I should be looking at with the current system, and perhaps a model you'd suggest.
If it wouldn't be too much trouble, I'd like help with future proofing my computer. I would also like a recommendation for the same system with the following two changes.
a) Swapping of the 1(one)x GeForce 9600 GT OC 512MB GDDR3 PCIe 2.0 for
2(two)x ATi Radeon HD 7750 1024MB GDDR5 PCIe 3.0
b) Overclocking of the CPU to ~4.0 ghz
Thank you very much for your time and help.
