  • Can You Help Me Diagnose This Problem?

This has been a reccurring problem. About 2 months after a clean install of Vista Ultimate, I begin getting errors. Some software acts funny, then I begin getting the BSODs. Here are the error messages:

    Stop: 0x000000D1 (0x00000000,0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0x91CCA897)
    SYMTDI.SYS- Address 91CCA897 Base at 91CB2000, Datestamp 4a529503
    next BSOD:
    Stop: 0x00000D8E (0xC0000005, 0x82136010, 0x8B96B6AC, 0x00000000)
    next BSOD:
    Stop: 0x0000008E (0xC0000005, 0x821388B3, 0x8CFE9ABC, 0x00000000)

This has been a problem over and over. I have used Memtest-all is well. Temps are okay. I reverted to "failsafe settings" on the MB, then to "optimized settings". I have changed the video card and hard drives.

Besides the BSOD, I will get lines and colors on the monitor before the BSOD. I am at a loss. I'm not that good with this stuff and I hope someone can help me figure this out.

    SYMTDI.SYS
This appears to be a software issue from your antivirus software. Are you using Norton?

Re: Can You Help Me Diagnose This Problem?

Ya, if you are using Norton uninstall it for a test (Really Forever I mean )

Then if the issue goes away you know this was the cause. If not let us know as you may need to adjust some BIOS settings and or update your BIOS.

Re: Can You Help Me Diagnose This Problem?

Okay, I have uninstalled the Norton Internet Security products. It is too soon to say if the problem is solved. But, what anti-virus should I replace it with? I definitely need some type of protection.

I would suggest Eset Smart Security personally, if you are buying a program.

If you are looking for freeware programs, I think AVG is ok nowadays, not sure though

Removing the anti-virus did not work. The failure occurs mostly, but not all, when I am in Internet Explorer. Here is the lastest crash info:

Re: Can You Help Me Diagnose This Problem?

Hmm, well I hate IE as well... So normally I say that is caused by IE. Try out Firefox, Chrome, or Opera for a few days and see if you still get the error before I advise you to change any BIOS settings.

But I can tell you this, you do have several BIOS settings that can be causing errors, and a few you need to set too. But please lets try a different browser for a few days before I tell you what BIOS changes you need.

If a new browser helps and you get no more errors let me know, then I will tell you what changes in the BIOS you should make. These would be needed even if you are not getting errors, I just want you to wait so you can see if your main issue is indeed caused by IE or not.

Having quit IE and started using Firefox, I have not had any problems. It's been over a week now, and no crashes. So, what about those bios settings? And thanks for all the help, I sure do appreciate it.

Re: Can You Help Me Diagnose This Problem?

Wow! Are you sure about those settings? I entered them, and on startup, I got an immediate BSOD. I then went back and returned the settings to "optimized", let the thing sit for a few minutes, then restarted. It's working again.
