  • Glitching and freezing

I recently reinstall Windows on my computer. I also got a copy of Norton 2005. When I play CS source, I would sometimes glitch. I'm running around and it would freeze for about 3 secs. I'm not lagging because I have cable and my latency is like 30 to 60. 100 max sometimes. It's also not my hardware because before the reinstallation of Windows, I had everything on max. It's on max now. I tried turning it to the lowest settings just to make sure and the same exact thing happens. Now the thing is, I thought it was a drivers problem, but my friend said the same thing started happening to him too after he installed Norton Systemworks 2005.

    A) Anyone else have Norton Systemworks 2005?
    B) Should I get new drivers, Omega or DNA?
    C) What's DNA?

A- I generally recommend staying away from the Systemsworks package. Norton makes a decent AV and their firewall isn't bad, but the Systemworks suite has always been a resource hog and cause for instability.

B- You can do new drivers if you like, it is a matter of personal preference more than anything else. The aftermarket (modded) drivers you list are generally tweaked versions of the official ATI Catalyst drivers.

C- DNA is like Omega, an aftermarket driver set. I usually recommend finding something else to use. During some tests several months back the DNA often had less performance than even the official Catalyst drivers from ATI.

I agree, 100%. It does bog your system down a lot and if you're gaming, it's just sitting there competing for resources

I rather take my chances on a getting virus anyday over having Norton installed and running in the background on my systems. My opinion is that the cure is worse than the disease in this case. Hopefully the 2005 version is better than the 2004 version.

so are we officially blaming this on Norton? Cuz I guess I'll uninstall. It';s just that GoBack (part of systemworks) is installed and I'm not sure if that or any other problem might happen. Somebody give me the ok to uninstall it and tell me that there wont be a problem. I just fresh install my OS so I didn't want ot have to do that agian.

If you just installed it freah not long ago, then it is the best time to do it over since you haven't had time to get everything set back up again. Of course, this time you might look into imaging the drive once you get it reinstalled and everything set up to your liking. Makes reformats a walk in the park from then on.

Yes... I used Norton Systemworks 2004 to make my ghost images. The problem is that I'm using 2005 now. That doesn't include the ghost imaging. Any software you would recomend to do it? Also, 2005 includes GoBack. That P.O.S. is basicly an adavanced version of Microsoft System Restore. GoBack is the thing thats' making CS Source glitches like it does. My friend has the same problem and once I uninstalled it, everything worked perfectly. So, what software would you recomend to image the hard drive?

AVG antivirus also works awesome and uses little resources too. I ditched MCAFEE which was eating up about 100MB ram at all times. I also use Windows Firewall and it seems fne too.
