Random reboots under stress are usually caused by either a poor quality PSU or overheating.

i dont think the power supply is poor quality it is made by fsp which is a very good make and i dont think its over heating either i have a vantec fan card which is 2 slots under the graphics card providing extra cooling for it pluss the whole case is aluminium which helps heat disipation i have one fan on the back for exhausting air and 2 fans at front for cold air intake pluss on the ati catalyst control center the temperature is displayed as 33c so i dont think its poor quality psu or overheating is there anything else it could be?

First off, PCI card coolers are not much help when it comes to cooling. The only thing it accomplishes is to take the heated air already in the case and move it around in an inefficient manner. When disigning a cases cooling system, the best method is to take cool outside air from the lower front portion of the case and exhaust it out of the upper rear part of the enclosure. Not only does this take in the natural tendency for heat to rise, it also keeps a solid wall of air moving constantly in a set direction throughout the case. The intake and exhaust should be about the same as too much in either location (intake or exhaust) ruins the airflow. The card coolers that I have seen do more harm than good if your case is set up with proper airflow; just as taking the side of the case off will actually cause the temperatures to rise.

Next up concerns the power supply. Who in the world is FSP? Are you talking about a Fortran unit? If not then I don't know the manufacturer and cannot give a thumbs up or down regarding its quality.

Finally, I was referring to processor temperture and not video board temperature. Particularly with the AMD line, it is very common for the system to sporadically reboot when the processor gets too hot. If you look through the event logs, you will almost always see some generic error message about a driver failure, but it is often nothing more then a hot processor.

Yes u say that the pci card fans just move the warm air already in the case towards the direction its flowing but the way the fan is positioned is its near the bottom theres nothing below it which generates heat and its in the path of the cool air coming in from the front so wats happening is the cool air comes in from the front then blown onto the video card the cpu isnt overheating either as it is at around 46c.

I agree with Darthtanion, it very well could be your PSU. It could also be your system ram, and it could also be your sound acceleration setting in direct X9 C if you have that installed with WindowsXP service pack #2 . Defualts to full but try turning it all the way down and see what happens.
Also I thought I read somewhere that ATI is having trouble with that video card on certain games, so maybe a driver update and Motherboard Bios update is a good move.
If this is heat related it would most likely freeze your system first, so I don't believe thats the problem but I have been fooled before.

ive tried the driver updates and bios updates but still the same problem it runs ok however on hl2 for quite a bit but the main one it crashes on is medal of honor pacific assault and counter strike
i will take to the shop 2moz and have it looked at anyways.

Try turning the sound acceleration down under the Start button, then run, and type in Dxdiag. Under the sound tab turn your basic acceleration all the way down. See if by chance that helps. After that cheap test you might want to consider trying only one ram module if you happen to have 2 in your system now. Then switch them if it still happens. Lastly try a different PSU. I don't think you will need to take it to a shop for those simple trouble shoots, some places will let you return the PSU if its not what you needed.

I'm also assuming you have nothing overclocked, if you do by all means fix it.

i had got a different psu its another 400 watt made by fsp but it is part of a cooling kit and came with 2 case fans and the psu has an extractpr fan built in and fan speed dial to see if that worked but also i changed to 1 stick of 512 and it worked i believe then i added another stik of 512 but this was out of an old system but still ddr 400 and everything is running fine for now i hope anyway if the problem reoccurs i will post another reply thanks for the help guys realy apreciate it.

As the others have eluded to it may be a few things causing this problem.

                          1. Depending on the quality of the PSU it may be stressed enough to cause this especially when you mention you have slot coolers and other addons taking away juice.

                          2. Just because it says '400w' doesn't mean it is capable of handling 400w at all times. Some of the cheaper PSUs label them this way but in real life they "peak" at this number which is a big difference.

                          3. Having a bunch of fans blowing air all over often times is worse then none at all.. Adding a slot cooler in there you are most likely hindering the flow even more.
